I'll probably pick up some port to leave to him in my will. Not sure how Italy is going to turn out. I have heard that 06 is going to be the best barolo vintage since 2000 and should be good in Tuscany as well. If 07 turns out great - I'll pick up a few barolo and brunello as well.

I think I am going to add the Hillaire Les Petits Pieds d'Armand to the list. I have read good things and want to try it out.

The only one available locally is the mont olivet. Anyone know how typical that one is for the vintage?

So far just Domaine Giraud Les Gallimardes. I tried one and thought it was fantastic, and bought more.
I'm going to try Giraud's Tradition next.
The black tea reference in the tasting note for Giraud Grenaches de Pierre is off-putting; for me.

I'll try, then pick up more 07's, as they appear on the shelves. Meanwhile I'm still cherry picking some 03's and 05's as I find them.

We offered out some more 2007s...mostly duplicates, but I used some of Robert Parker's "self hype" of the past 2 weeks and sold out of the following wines,

Ferrand
Usseglio Mon Aieul
Usseglio Deux Freres
Mont Olivet Cuvee Papet
Prefert Charles Giraud

People are buying this stuff.

Dan,

Maybe I missed it, but are you not a fan of the 2007's? Or just not a fan of the "Vintage of the century" hype again? What do you think of the 2004's and 2006's?

Cheers,

Jeff

Alright, so I tried to stick to my comments at the start of the thread. I think I did okay from a value perspective (on certain bottles), but I ended up splurging on a few things and buying a lot more than I thought I would. Basically, I failed miserably. So far,

Clos des Papes
Saint Prefert Giraud
Saint Prefert Favier
Domaine Giraud Tradition
Domaine Giraud Les Gallimardes
Domaine Giraud Grenaches de Pierre
Domaine Ferrand
Vieux Donjon
Clos du Mont Olivet
Clos du Mont Olivet Papet
Janasse Chaupin
Domaine du Pegau
Hillaire Les Petits Pieds d'Armand
Roger Sabon Cuvee Prestige

Will more than likely grab some Vieux Telegraphe, Beaucastel, and Beaurenard Boisrenard (price at PC is ridiculously good).

Have you tried them all Wink? I haven't seen the Pegau here yet, though I'm sure I'll get it when I do.

I'd be really curious about the Ferrand. I loved the '04, didn't see the '05, and was disappointed with the '06.

The Pegau is on pre-arrival. In regards to the Ferrand, I have not tried Bravay's wines yet. I just found a few bottles of '04. Also, PC had some of the '07 for $45, but they appear to have sold out. If you are looking for '05, MacArthur's in D.C. has some.
As for the '06, I recently saw a TN on eBob that said the wine is showing much better than it was early on. The poster indicated disappointment on release. Based on what I have read about the Domaine, I understand the wines benefit from age.

Thanks for the info on the wines. Sadly I live in a no import from retailers state, so have to get them locally.

I believe I will be passing on the Beaucastels for the same reason I passed on virtually all of the 2005 Bordeaux's. I'll unlikely not live long enough to enjoy them in their true prime. It's back vintages for me on this one.

You'll be here, KSC, as will I, but whether the doc will let us drink is another matter.

Just one more sip.

My concern is having tastebuds functional (though possibly the least of my worries at that point) and I want to drink it, not be sipping it through a straw. Razz

Suffice to say, I'm considering Beaucastels to not even begin to hit their zone until year 20.

Yeah it's a bummer. Just snagged some VT, but I can't edit my post above.

I think I am going to pass on the Beaucastel. On the fence on the Beaurenard.

I bought the 07 Beaucastel, Beaurenard, the Vieux Telegraphe, the Clos de Papes, and a couple others.

I'm finished with them. I bought a lot of 05s. I'll be 70 in 2021 when many of these wines will just start to come around. I have enough! My wife says I may not have the liver to finish all the wine we currently have in the cellar, and there are still lots of 08 Oregon pinots and 07 CA cabs to be bought! Big Grin
