Hi everyone,

I've been lurking on this forum for a while. I don't tend to drink as much as some of you guys on the forum (although I dream about it doing so sometimes) Big Grin but I really appreciate and enjoy good wine when paired with good food.

My husband & I will be visiting Napa in May, and he was generous enough to let me buy a wine storage unit to preserve all the wonderful wine we'll be bringing back from the trip even though he doesn't drink (the poor man is allergic to sulphur). I know California wine has a short shelf life compared to French wine which will age beautifully in some cases, but the unit will be used to store French wine as well when we slowly build up our inventory.

I want to get some guidance from you all wine connoisseurs out there who can help us pick the right wine storage unit. Our preferences will be to hold approx 150 bottles (more focused on red than white, and some sparkling), and we'd like to invest on a good unit that will last us for years as opposed to a cheap one that we'd need to change out a few years down the road. Being said, which brand on the market will be the best bet? I've read on this forum that euro cave is one of the best out there. Will the 3 temp control work best? What about vintage keeper, subzero, or marvel??

Thanks in advance for your help!!

Some suggestions:

Vinotheque or Vino Temp seem to be good quality brands.

Don't for get to order custom racking so that you can fit those big fat Pinot bottles in.

You could also build a cellar and install a temperature control unit. Those storge things cost between $2000 and $5000, so once you're in that range, cellar construction doesn't seem crazy.

I just bought a Eurocave and it should arrive in three weeks! I can't wait to get these bottles out of the styrofoam shippers finally

After reading all of the posts on this forum about the units (which is a full time job by the way), I surmized that the thought was if you can do it price wise, go with the Eurocave. I didn't want to spend that much, but I figured that if something happened and my wine got ruined, it would cost a ton more than whatever I paid for the unit. I haven't gotten yet, so I have no opinion on the actual thing though.

Hi zblang: that's exactly my thought. I don't mind spurging more for the unit as I will slowly build up my inventory. I'm already on the buying hunt for the Leoville-Poyferre 2003, and Branaire-Ducru 2003 Bordeaux, which received excellent Bordeaux parker ratings of 98 & 95 respectively.

What other options are out there besides Eurocave, vinotheque & vinotemp? Can someone please advise?

Thanks in advance for your help!!
