Anyone like the Dolcetto grape from Piemonte? Usally we hear about the Barbera, Barolo and Barbaresco.
Who is your favorite Dolcetto producer?

I love the wines from Pecchenino. Sandrone makes a wonderful one, though different stylistically than Pecchenino.

I second Pecchenino, specifically the Siri d'Jermu. I much prefer Dolcetto from Dogliano, as opposed to Alba.

That said, Sottimano's Dolcetto is excellent as well.

Pecchenino is a controversial producer among some traditionalists. The wines are very dark and supple and loaded with fruit. They are among a small handful of Italian wines that can be enjoyed without a meal.

I like them for one reason - They taste good.

Thanks,

Just found the wines in Denmark, according to the importer website they produce 3 different Dolcetto: San Luigi , Siri d´Jermu and Bricco Botti". Expensive too Eek 20€ for the Bricco Botti.

Birger -

I prefer the Siri d'Jermu over the Bricco Botti, and it's cheaper. 10 Euro in Italy, so probably 10-12 in Denmark.

Birger,

I didn't think they made a 2002 Siri d'Jermu. Anyway, I'm sure the wine is okay, but pales in comparison to better vintages. I've had the '99, '00, and '01, all excellent. The 2003 should be stellar as well.

I find that the Siri d'Jermu needs an additional year or two age in bottle after release, but the 2002 is likely an exception due to the poor weather.

The importer you listed shows the 2003 Siri d'Jermu available for 130 Euros per case. I would skip the 2002 and buy that.

I only wish we could get their wines in Canada.
