Thanks for your input, Keith. I had the '76 Jordan Cab twice in the 1980's and felt it was already declining then. Maybe I'll open the Opus someday for a vertical or horizontal, but I have no plans to have it as a wine with a normal dinner.

The only "untouchable" bottle in my cellar is a 1969 Phelan Segur. I have no idea whether the wine is drinkable or not, but I have kept it for sentimental reasons.
In the summer of '69 when those grapes were growning in the fields of France, our countrymen planted our flag on the moon. It was a seminal moment for a young lad of 8, the culmination of a short lifetime of dreams. And since I can never own a moonrock, I keep the bottle as a reminder.

As an aside, I wonder what wine would taste like grown from lunar soil. Talk about terrior!

For me personally, I don't believe in buying any wine that I am unwilling to drink. Now some of them have been experiments that have been offered up to the sink gods [Wink] , but I buy my wine strictly to consume.

Why buy them if you don't plan on touching them?
The juice is meant to be enjoyed so enjoy it. It you want an investment try the stock market...well, not the best bet.

No, no, no! Even my magnum of Grahams will one day be guzzled. Like someone else said, unless it has some emotional significance or a famous autograph or something. The stuff is meant to be swilled.

All of my wine will be drunk by me. I say this since I have a pretty small cellar. If I ever get a huge hundreds of bottles sized cellar, I suppose I might sell some. But for now, I plan on drinking everything at some point -- hopefully at its optimum drinking window.

Now, ask me 'Do you have bottles that you'd need some serious convincing to open?' and I'd say HELL YEAH!
