I'm sure '07 will be much less than '06. Roll Eyes

OK, I lasted two months. However, with the birth of my son I was forced to go out and purchase some champagne - for tonight, tomorrow night, Saturday night... Smile

Sounds to me like you have a huge hole in your cellar if you have to go out to buy a bottle of Champagne to celebrate. Wink

Couldn't buy my Betz's allocation. I am renovating my house and just can't afford it right now. I would have bought a couple but they would only ship a min. of six.

WIML-

You are correct; I have very little experience with champagne and, therefore, I have nothing in my cellar. (Shame on me! Red Face)

Thank you. I started tonight with a bottle of NV Duval-Leroy Brut - Paris Label. We will see what tomorrow brings...

Cool Congratulations on the birth of your son, gigabit!

Thanks KSC02; it is a very exciting time in my life. I am going to smoke a nice cigar(s) and drink some appropriate champagne this weekend.

PROVECHO!

Thanks khmark7-

I have little experience with champagne, so perhaps I am not the best person to judge this bottle. However, with my limited abilities, I would give this bottle 90-91 points. There was lots of nice lemon zest, stone, bread dough, apricot, and a very nice, dry finish. Smile

Passed on some 2006 Clos des Papes this week-end in Boston. Prices are really getting out of control for this wine, there is much better stuff available for $115 a bottle.

Eek. I just passed on some Turley, not that I could get it shipped to Indiana. . .

you know, September 1 has come and gone but it has not been the momentus occasion that I expected it to be. I have on order, from friends, some of the Betz syrahs, and I just picked up 4 Charmes-Chambertin on a deal, but haven't really gone as crazy as I thought I would. Hmmm, maybe this weekend!!

Dale: I was a little weak towards the end and picked up a few bottles, but I haven't bought anything since the 1st either. I am planning to pick up some stuff, but am not in any rush. Although I didn't achieve my goal, I still spent very little on wine the past 2 months and realized that I do have some self control. For me, that is the important thing. Hopefully this will become a normal thing for me.

I fell off the no-buy wagon as well, but just for a couple of good 12 dollar cheapies. I'm routinely looking at, and passing over vino, thinking that the money is better spent elsewhere. Not a bad feeling for sure.

Dale/Keeno, you've got it nailed I think. Going on a buying moratorium removes, at least the impulse to buy "whatever" in a knee jerk fashion.

Instead of buying wine during lunch yesterday I decided to buy a new washer and dryer. Does that qualify me to participate in this thread? Razz

Why on earth would you buy a washer and dryer? You could have had 2, maybe 3 bottles of Harlan Razz

Next Friday I leave for another weekend in Napa. Ten couples from the club, two rounds at Silverado. Wine tasting on Saturday. I am hoping to continue the moratorium - unless of course, Cliff Lede has the buy one case of bubbles, get the second for 12 cents sale again....

And one thing that has really impacted my buying, especially on the every day drinker end of the spectrum, is that my Costco is closed for renovation. It was, if information is correct, one of the top 5 wine selling Costco's in the country, and they razed the store to build a brand spanking new, "state of the art" Costco. That was my place for going in to get a case or two of qpr and I actually need them to open back up, as that is quickly becoming my shortest section in the cellar.

Just passed on an offer for 2003 Casanova di Neri TN for $51 per. May have gone for it if you didn't have to buy at least six. It's a good price for that wine, but I have a few already and don't want to go to deep in '03's. Now if I can find that offer next year for the '04. Now where is the yeah, that's going to happen icon?
