Criteria: 1 white & 1 red Must have been bought and consumed after 1/1/2000. What say you? IW Life without wine?...... Yeah Right. Is this any vintage, and the bottle was purchased post-2000? Or, is this the best post-2000 wine? Given the first: Red: A tie between '86 Mouton & '87 Dunn HM ('96 Leoville Las Cases isn't far behind). White: '90 H. Donnhoff Oberhauser Brucke Spatlese Given the latter: Red: '03 Cos d'Estournel White: '01 H. Donnhoff Oberhauser Brucke Auslese GoldkapselThis message has been edited. Last edited by: Shane T.,

Champagne: 1964 Dom Perignon Red: 1990 Jaboulet La Chapelle Hermitage White: 1990 Henri Bonneau Celestins There were others I could have mentioned, but these popped into my head. They were all purchased (private sales) post-2000 and drank between then and now (mostly with friends). Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

One of the great whites: 2000 Chateau de Chamirey Chardonnay Mercurey served with: Chilean Sea Bass "en Barigoule" with Parmigiano Reggiano (I suspect Gentleman Farmer, Purple Haze, Festiva and Comet Spider will remember that one) One of the great reds: 1989 Lynch Bages 99% of lawyers give the rest of us a bad name.

White: 1988 Kalin Cellars Cuvee LV Chardonnay; I know some may think I'm crazy for saying this is the best white I've had since 2000, but what made this so special is how well it showed when I opened it. This bottle had so much body, viscosity, and a perfect balance of both ripe and citrus fruits. Near perfection the night I shared it with my wife. Some other notable whites since 2000 have came from SQN, Leflaive, Leroy, and some from the Rhone. Red: 1964 Grands Echezeaux; As close to perfection a wine experience can ever be, in my opinion. Other contenders for me; 1975 La Tour Haut Brion, 1969 Inglenook Estate Bottled Cabernet Sauvignon, 1982 Penfold's Grange, 1964 Galarey Vendemmia Barolo

Based on the criteria of what I've purchased and consumed after 1/1/2000: 2006 Didier Dagueneau Pur Sang 1989 Ridge Monte Bello Otherwise, I would have added more reds that other forumites have generously provided.

I'll probably want to change this later when I remember some other wines, but these would likely be my tops for now: 2005 Didier Daguenau Buisson Renard 2003 Leoville Barton

Good to hear. I have one, only one. When would you suggest I open it? As for the topic of this thread, I have no idea. There have been many great wines and many not so great. Just one more sip.

Red-- 1990 Cheval Blanc White-- much harder to say. I don't drink as many whites, and I haven't had the privilege to taste many iconic bottles. Leading candidates include JJ Prum Wehlener Sonenhur from the '80's (I want to say 1988?), 2003 Peter Michael Chardonnay Belle Cote, and a 1er cru Puligny Montrachet that I tasted before I had any clue about Burgundy, and therefore cannot recall the producer, vineyard or vintage.

To answer the earlier question the vintage can be pre 2000. Just bought and consumed after 1/1/2000. The reason I posted this question is that for a lot of us, the best wines we can remember were quite a few years ago. For me the 2 greatest wines I have ever had were in 1990. It is interesting to see what people have bought and drank in the last 13 years. Another idea is bottled/bought/consumed post 1/1/00. Life without wine?...... Yeah Right. 1988 Krug Champagne Brut, purchased and consumed on 10/26/2005, the greatest day in my 37 years as a White Sox fan. (Still kicking myself for not buying the other bottle of this that same day) 1991 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, purchased 4/2011 and consumed 1/2012. _______________________________________________________________________ Wine is passion. Sweet – 1983 d’Yquem Bubbly – 1996 Pol Roger Sir Winston Churchill Still White – 2003 Beaucastel VV Red – 1996 Cos d’Estournel If it’s created, bought and consumed post 2000 then: Sweet – 2002 Kracher Scheurebe #6 Bubbly – 2002 Bollinger Still White – 2003 Beaucastel VV Red – 2006 Amon-Ra Going through looking at this really made me realize how much of the great red wine I've had over the past 13 years have come from the generosity of others. You know who you are. Thank you.

Well, given that some of us were teenagers in '00, this question means different things to different people, but... Dry White: 1998 F.X. Pichler Unendlich Sparkling: 1986 Krug Clos du Mesnil (from mag) Red: 1992 Dalla Valle "Maya" Note: I have consumed several dry reds I personally preferred to the Maya, eg. 1997 La Tache, but it is my judgement that the Maya was the "best" dry red I've ever had.
