Mine is 2 1/8 inches! I'm very proud.

I love those old bordeaux corks. The 83 Sociando mallet I opened tonight had a 2 1/8 inch cork. I find it so satisfying to pull out one of those babies. Anyone else notice that size does matter? Wink

Yes, but I came here for an argument.

Oh! Oh! I'm sorry, this is abuse.

Hey Grossie!

I bet you and your wife can't parallel park either! See, I'd make an ethnic joke here, but some people on this forum get a little touchy.

It nice until you get one where you are at the end of the corkscrew's action and it still isn't out of the bottle. =)

I use a screwpull routinely. It's got a very long screw and the cork isn't all the way out of the bottle at the end. I agree Joe, I love that.

I know him very well. He was invited (but didn't come) to my wedding. The only thing is that he retired as Chair. I think he's still involved there, but Dray is the Chair now. Feel free to drop my name. Axelrod's a very nice guy, but a little different. He helped me out a lot when I was in your position.

I wish all of the top end performers went the route of the "big cork". It makes total sense. If you're going to go long term...isn't a BIG CORK important!

And...it's not a bad idea for wine either! Wink

Joseph, Grossie,

Is this Dr. Axelrod originally from Rochester, NY? If it is who I think it is, his father is a retired psychiatrist from Rochester(pittsford). A very small world if it is. My father and Dr. Axelrod used to be partners along with Dr. Satloff.

9 and a half... oh, you said CORK.

Well, should the circumference matter most??? I mean it does no one any good if it is long and thin. But if it is fatter... now you're talkin'!!! Razz

IW- I don't think he's from Rochester, but it's possible. He's about 52-55 yeras old. Next time I see him I'll ask. Joe will probably see him first.

As for measuring to the 1/8 of an inch- When you're dealing in the 2" range I thought it was quite important. Plus, I'm used to dealing with very short lengths as it is. Frown

One of the longest and most interesting corks I have seen is on the bottle of 1971 Petrus that I decanted prior to meeting Board-o for dinner a couple years ago. The Petrus cork was long and it was red.

I'm developing a case of cork-envy. Does it qualify for psychiatric treatment?

Grossie - Long and thin may go all the way in, but short and thick does the trick.

I like my champagne cork. It has a big nob on the end that a lady can hold onto and get it to pop by pulling it by hand.

There is shrinkage after you pull it out, so it may have been bigger while in.
