With Friday's Mega-Millions jackpot at $192 Million, I wonder...

Assuming you're in a participating state, and you were the lone winner of the jackpot, and you already set aside money for investing, retirement, etc., what would be the first bottle you'd buy? While I'd buy a whole bunch of well aged stuff... the one I'd seek out first would be a 1982 Chateau Latour.

Go HOKIES!!!

1961 Lafite, in magnum if at all possible.

I'd go for the Nebuchadnezzar (12-16L) or maybe even the Soverign (50L). Wooohoooo! Cool

The 1789 Lafite bottle, once belonging to Thomas Jefferson would be my first choice! However, more realistically, the 1900 Chateau Margaux would be a very close second choice! I once had an opportunity to buy a bottle of 1900 Chateau Margaux at a restaurant in Margaux; it was on the wine list for $1500, which exceeded my top restaurant purchase by 5 times! I just couldn't do it! But on a Wine List today, it would probably be $10,000 to $15,000, or even more!Frown

I'd go straight to K&L and buy the best large format bottle(s) of Champagne that they had.

Then I'd start figuring out where to find a Penfolds Bin 60A.

I'd go with something I think I'd probably like, staying with my current tastes: 1997 or 2001 Harlan Estate or Screagle. Just because.

....then I'd buy a stellar cellar. Cool

Cheers!

Not sure. With that much money you could always buy wine at some point, but it wouldn't be at the top of my list. If I had to I'd like a 1945 Mouton, a horizontal of the 1961 first growths, same for the 1982's.

The first bottle would be mwagner's choice (1982 Latour), since it's the missing first growth from my 1982 collection. Then I'd go hog wild on 1945 and 1961's......

The first thing that I would do is re-visit this thread, print it out, and then go out and buy EVERY ONE OF YOU the bottle(s) that you listed here. Nothing's too good for all my virtual pals.

No, seriously! And don't even TRY to talk me out of it!

Wake up, David, it's not the scratchers game with $500 jackpot.

With 192 mil in the bank I ain't walking to no stupid stores no more. I'll have them bastards all come to me, and make that chap Parker personally taste all wines for me first, so I don't offend my palate with unwanted surprises.

British minds think alike - bloody big bottle of Champagne. I might just pop up upstairs and get the Dom and Cristal and chill them. The other methusela of Piper would need to be taken to the nearest place with a big fridge so that the rabble can have a pint. Get the bunch at Jones in Leamington to start delivering the good stuff once I've found a place with a big enough cellar and party room.

It would have to be something completely insanely priced and rare. 3l or bigger of a 1900 or 1945 First Growth or maybe a very old DRC.

I'm back....

See, this is exactly the problem that happens to Lotto winners. They go on wild spending sprees: Rolls-Royces for the relatives, a $10 million house in the Hamptons, a cellar full of $5000 bottles of wine.

Then they wake up one day and realize that they've spent the bulk of the money and there isn't enough left to cover the insurance, taxes, maintenance and upkeep. So the Rolls get sold at a discount, the house is repossessed, and the wine ends up on Winebid at half price.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you're a resident of the U.S. you'll only take home a measly half of the winnings after tax. If, however, you come from Canada you get the whole enchilada. With that I'd be buying up all the winners of the 2005 Canada Wine Awards and shipping them to Board-O Razz

Once it's in the bank maybe, but until my ticket's been verified and the jackpot's been paid I'm playing it safe.

In fact to be on the safe side I'll probably start by drinking whatever fizz we already have in. Shadow Creek, anyone? Big Grin
