Ok, I'll start it off: Clio (any vintage). I happen to like it and not mind the style, but definitely a love it/hate it wine. "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return."

Well, I don't like throwing wineries under the proverbial bus, but I've always been disappointed with the reds from Darioush...given the price point and the supposed wine making tradition he gives homage to...

I think that Pavie would be at the top.

Ohhh, Pavie- I like that one too. I must have a modern-leaning palate and not too much of a traditionalist (yet anyway). "The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return."

The first two I thought of were, Josko Gravner wines and wines from Jura.

I haven't had one in years but all Coturri wines were controversial (or bad).

I've never tried it, but Sea Smoke gets slammed here quite a bit.

Any producer on the planet that makes a Pinotage. Second place goes to most Mollydooker wines. "A bottle of wine contains more advice then any self help book in the world"

I've had that wine twice, and while not terrible, definitely the most varietally incorrect wine I've ever tasted.

+1 Love 'em, but most of the time I open one, I end up drinking it alone.

I can think of whole categories that are controversial: 2004 red Burgundies 2007 Chateauneuf, especially the premium cuvees 2007 Oregon Pinot 2000 Barolo & Barbaresco

"older style" CA wines seem to put people on one side of a fence. Stony Hill, Santa Cruz Mt Vineyards, Mayacamas, School House etc. Also Kalin, without a doubt. Some people are turned off instantly, especially by the chardonnays. Others, like me, love them. to each his own.

Brunello & Barolo, there seem to be some haters and lovers about. This message has been approved by Robert Taylor.

Haven't heard of him until your mention. Just read an article about him and his wines. Per wine-searcher, a shop I frequent carries them, I'll have to check 'em out... Any stand-outs?

Coppola wines. I keep thinking they should be better than they are. ******** "People in Seattle are always so polite, which makes me feel like I always have to be polite, as well. That's so rude."
