2005 I bought around 150 bottles, in 2006 I bought 2 - and felt bad about them.

James,

You may have posted this elsewhere, but when do the 2005 reviews "hit the street?"

Thx,

J.S. I hope, but only as savvy as you are as a barrel and bottle taster. Good luck to us both.

P.S. If you don't mind, I would like to us your quote for my tag line as it is the nicest thing written about me today!

I just read that a Tokyo Wine store is selling the 05 Mouton and 05 Margaux for a mere 130,000 Yen per bottle.... and looks like they have it in stock

I'm strongly considering purchasing the 05 Lascombes. For an up and coming 2nd growth, it's cheap compared to other 2nd's.

I'll be at the Union des Grand Crus 2005 Bordeaux tasting in Chi-town. I'll make more judgements there.

I am going (with the wife) in Toronto. The good thing (the only good thing) about buying in Ontario is that I can read barrel reviews, follow-up reviews after bottling, and go to a tasting like this, and then cancel any or all of my futures, or (if already delivered) return them for a 100% refund. Can buy like mad when futures come out, return those that disappoint, keep those that perform better than expected. The bad thing about going to the tasting is I have no idea what I am doing. Oh well, if I cancel one board lot that I otherwise would have kept, the tasting will pay for itself. Do I really need to spit???

I really enjoyed the Grand Cru tasting in Chicago last year and look forward to it this year. A great opportunity to taste many high quality wines.

I believe the event in Chicago is Jan. 21st. Tickets are not for sale yet, but they probably will be after the New Year.

Argh...I hope everyone isn't wandering around with their own personal buckets, the wife will be really put off by that and won't want to go to any future tastings. My plan was to taste approx. 20 (the ones that I have ordered), tasting the top ones first (before I get sauced), then working my way down the rest. If I decide that I have to spit, I will still have to taste the good ones first, because at any LCBO/Vintages event that I have ever heard about, good wines are in limited quantities. I actually hope I dislike the wines...ordered more than I should have, hope I can cancel a bunch.

All of the above less than $40 per bottle.

On a side note, I have 43 bottles of Bordeaux futures purchased from wine shops around the country. This year Illinois passed a law prohibiting shipments from out of state liquor stores that goes into affect mid year 2008. Looks like I might have to make a road trip out east to pick up my futures.... Not happy.

I bought 110 bottles of 2005 futures in June 06. Margauxs and Pomerols. First and second growths. I am counting on the barrel tasting notes from Jim and others. Hope that you have it right.

And the whole church said, "Amen". Thanks Jim. I am more excited than ever about receiving these futures. I hope that you know the important role you play for guys like me that have acquired a taste for fine wine but do not have the opportunity to make the assessments that you share with us. You are filling an important void in my wine room. Happy New Year Jim!

James,

There was a recent buzz about the '05 La Fleur Morange where at a blind tasting of 70 or so St Em's, Jancis Robinson picked this as her fav and gave 19 pts. Beat out Cheval and other notable GCs. Parker liked it alot too. You did not taste it however. Is that because of its small production? (350 cases according to RP).

thanks in advance

mike
