me too, although I haven't picked it up yet I got the notice that it was ready for delivery - 2005 Ch Puygueraud

I also got a schedule of when the wines will be available and saw that some will not be in until September.

I'm sure those available in Sept won't be consumed in Sept Wink

You gotta love 2005 Bordeaux.

Two that hit our market today were...

Mouton for $1100

Pontet Canet for $140

Let me have 6 Pontet and my change please.

w+a - I totally agree with your point, BUT P-C has increased a HIGHER percentage than Mouton. I bought 03 P-C off the shelf for $54 (WA 95 WS 93), while the 05 (WA 93-95 WS 96) is nearly 300% more. Doesn't compute in my purchasing scheme, even factoring in the weak dollar.

Sounds like a good sales opportunity... I should be listing the Pontet Canet I bought for $87 earlier this week on Wine Commune for $140. Thanks for the tip!

Had a taste of the 2005 Lanessan today at my LWS and it was still very nice after being open for an entire week! I picked up a bottle for $20. Seems like a good deal.

I agree that seems like a pretty fair price given post-futures increase and US currency woes.

Ok, I'm a little late to the 2005 Bordeaux party.

So prices have been jacked up, and everyone is raving about this vintage. I thought I could just ignore it, but I can't, I have to get some.

So, what do I buy? I can get Lascombes in the 80's, do I go for it? I want quality stuff in the ~100 dollar and under range, other second growths should be possible for this price right? Pontet-Canet is a lesser growth but some board members are raving about it, would it be wise to get this over a second growth? Any suggestions appreciated.

Run over to Costco and just buy any 2005s that you see under $100. They have the best prices and appear to be only stocking the better wines. The offering varies by store and comes in waves. It doesn't last long.

The 16 April WS Insider contains James' review of the 2005 Villhardy. I mention this because it was asked for numerous times during this "2005 Bordeaux" string. Interesting that it was asked about so often since there were only 250 cases produced.

James: Is this right? 250 cases? Thank you for the review.

After all of this talk about expensive 2005 Bordeaux, I thought some of you would want to know that WINEX is offering the 2005 Domaine De Courteillac Bordeaux Superieur for $15.99/bottle. Wine Spectator rating of 90 points! (70% Merlot, 20%Cab Sauvignon, and 10% Cab Franc) It was also highlighted on page 65 of the 31 March issue of WS as "50 Bordeaux's that deserve special attention". I bought two cases. I'm sure they have more. Stores near you may have it too...

My record shows I bought the 05 Pontet futures for $79.99 per bottle at K&L two years ago. I hope they will pour some of the 05's at next week's Grand Tour. Otherwise I will be tempted to open one very soon.

I'll see that $79.99 futures purchase and raise you with a purchase of '05 Pontet Canet for $87 a few weeks ago. Smile

Chateau Puygueraud (WS 92) Previously mentioned in this thead. Prices have risen, but it is still showing up on Wine-Searcher for about $25 per bottle. Still a good QPR at that price, IMHO.

Chateau Clerc Milon (WS 95) Multiple listings on Wine-Searcher for $65 to $80 per bottle.

Thw two biggest increases were

2005 pavie macquin $350.00US(bought $115 CAD futures )
2005 Malescot St-Exupery 190$US(bought 95$ CAD futures)

These are Zachys prices so I can't say whether they are on the high end or not.

James: Did you happen to try Chateaux Lusseau on your last trip to bordeaux? Just wondering if it held up to your barrel scores?

Looks very high to me. I bought some after Parker's updated range score for $110.

You are not late to the party. There are some good buys from Costco right now. Call them up to find out which locations have them in stock.
Item# 174664 05 Pichon Baron $119.99
Item# 174605 05 Duhart Milon $46.99
Item# 174631 05 Lagrange $48.99
If you are still not sure what to buy, sign up for the WineX 2005 Bordeaux tasting before this Saturday. There are 10 right banks and 8 left banks with all you can eat cheese. All it takes is $49 and 20 minutes drive from your place....and may be a destinated driver if you need one. Wink

Thanks for the tip! Just signed up. Funny, when I was there checking out 2005 Bordeaux this past weekend no one mentioned the tasting to me.

Oh, and it is a 6 minute drive Wink

The Duhart is a steal. It's probably the best wine ever from the estate.

Apparently San Anton does not get any of these wines... I visit the two stores every week and still nothing interesting from the '05s... Frown

Here is to great wines, expensive watches and... "low" APR credit cards...
