James,

Did you taste the Rauzan-Gassies '05?

I'm quite keen to know how you rate it now its released. Since your barrel tasting clearly showed some dissapointment about this chateau.

I am thinking to purchase 05 Cos d'Estournel and 05 Pontet Canet. Would you think these 05s are better than their 03s? I think it's a pretty decent deal at this (late) stage of Futures ($150 for Cos and $80 Pontet) and wonder how many I would buy.

This is from an individual, not from a store.

For Cos, 03 is currently running at $180-200. As long as 05 is similar to 03 in quality, I'd buy as much as I can. James said 05 Cos is 00 plus 03.

Well winelibrary has it for $185 I think but that's the best I've seen.

I didn't taste the Rauzan-Gassies '05. But I don't think it will be up to much. I will get some bottles in March.

Received these 05 futures that I purchased in June 06 yesterday in perfect condition from WINEX. I really like dealing with these guys. I admit that I don't have a lot of experience with other wine houses, but these guys have been perfect every time. Can't wait for the rest of my futures.

There was a nice surprise in the CH Lascombes crate: a very beautiful engraved invitation to visit them in the future. While I am sure they were standard every case going to the USA, it was a classy touch.

Thanks to James Suckling for the barrel notes that helped form my purchases of futures of the wines that I have enjoyed in the past. Thanks also to James for the superb coverage of 2005 Bordeauxs in the March WS.

You bet I am James. But I still have the futures below coming. Would really like to uncork that Haut Brion. I remember your "juicy steak" comment...Thanks again James. Been following you for awhile and you have not steered me wrong.

BTW: Did you taste the Villhardy?

I just popped a bottle of the 05 Villhardy. Not much on the nose except maybe a little human sweat smell, then raisins, cough syrup, bell peppers and cigarette tobacco on the palate, finishing with a lemon-skin-like acidity on the finish. Probably 79-82 points, assuming optimistically that the acidity mellows before the rest of the wine is dead.

Okay, I'm totally kidding, I've never tried that wine before, but since the questions were so persistent, I thought I'd have some fun with it. Hopefully the real wine turns out to be great and Graz loves it and/or makes a killing on flipping them. Smile
