Apologies to Doug Z for sort-of stealing this topic, but what are your favourite stinky cheeses, and what are your favourite wines to drink with them?
I mentioned Stinking Bishop and Aussie stickies or tawny ports. Port and stilton are of course a great match (not sure that stilton counts as a "stinky" cheese though). ------------------- Go Bruins!! Go Tigers!! Go Pistons!! Go Lions!! |

We used to get Liederkranz Cheese at McSorley's in NYC, but that was accompanied by ale. If you want some STANK on your cheese, give that one a try.
Just one more sip. |

That was my initial reaction as well but perhaps he's referring to a Muenster from Alsace. Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. |

LOL! That was my first thought as well but unfortunately it is somewhat common to eliminate the "e". Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. |

Rats, if it's a bman thread he's bound to have mentioned Stinking Bishop already. Anybody notice it in 'The Curse of the Wererabbit'?
Old, nearly liquid, Camembert is a good one to make a stench in the fridge. For the Portheads... www.theportforum.com |

I can remember growing up as a kid in Montreal(70's), my father used to buy 'Oka'.... Man did that smell bad! You can still get it today but it doesnt smell nearly as bad as it did back then.
I also agree with irwin, re;Epoisse. |

I agree with Irwin as well. I have yet to meet a cheese with more stink than Epoisse. Not sure what wine to match with it. I've tried the recommended red Burgundy but it didn't seem like a particularly good match, more a waste of an expensive wine.

It's...ah...a bit runny... Oh, I like it runny. Well, it's very runny, actually, sir. No, matter. Fetch hither the fromage de la Belle France! Mmmwah! I...think it's a bit runnier than you'll like, sir. I don't care how f*@{ing runny it is, hand it over with all speed. Venezuelan Beaver Cheese, perhaps? *********** You never see crazy people walking the streets, screaming about being atheists, do you? |

I noticed it, but I can't remember if Wensleydale got a mention in the latest episode of W&G. I thought the best reference was the name of the Green Grocer's store. It was my Uncle George who discovered that alcohol was a food well in advance of modern medical thought. - P. G. Wodehouse |
