One of my favs is Le Dome in Montparnasse. Seafood. The bouillabaise is amazing, of course it's better in the summer.
Looks like I'm going to miss Taillevent on my upcoming trip. The only night I'm available is Sat night and they don't serve on Sat. I'll have to catch it next year, maybe.
If you want good bistro food, find Rue Guisard (it's between the St. Germain des Pres metro stop and the church St. Sulpice). I've eaten at all of the French places. You can't miss with any of them.
Les Bouqainistes on the river is quite good. You'll need reservations.

We had a very nice bistro meal at a place called Rotisserie le Beaujolais (or maybe du beaujolais). It's on quai des Tournelles, across the street from the Tour D'Argent. It is owned by the same people. It's very reasonably priced with excellent food and good service. Pretty good wine list too, but not outstanding.
******* Not looking good for next year either.

Small world. My notes on the place: Rotisserie Beaujolais - 19, quai de la Tournelle (south across the Seine from Notre Dame, east down the bank). Been there two or three times. Always a treat. Staff is a little bit surly in a fun way (like Dick's Last Resort in Chicago). Have had wild boar and magret de canard off special menus. Know that the items on the regular menu are good. Oeuffs en meurette is on the regular menu and is terrific. Not expensive.
I think it's a little farther down from Tour D'Argent. I'm surprised if it's owned by the same folks that own Tour.
Edited (nice feature by the way): Grossie is right, it's right next to Tour d'Argent. (I had to look it up on Google Maps).

The one I'm talking about is Le Dôme in Montparnasse on Blvd Montparnasse. There is also Le Dôme du Marais which a friend tells me is absolutely wonderful - their food pictures on their website look wonderful. I may visit when I go there next week. If so, I'll post a report on it.
Le Dôme in Montparnasse is a seafood place. Good selection of oysters. The bouillabaise is my favorite. They have a nice shellfish platter as well.

I just got back this past Friday. Had an amazing tasting menu with wine pairings at La Truffiere. They are also open for lunch. On the pricey side, but I think well worth it. There cheese cart is out of this world. A regular came in while we were there and had a bottle of wine and cheese only...

By the way, a stroll around the cemetiere immediately south of the restaurant is pretty interesting. It's a very crowded and popular cemetary. People are dying to get in there.
Good pizza and less costly neighborhood place: Pizza St. Antonio.
The best cafe: Bourgone du Marais (great wine)
a small rest. on the Isle st. luis: Mon viel ami is excellent.
Best splurge: Guy Savoy (but be ready to spend 4+ hours and $2000 per 2 persons --arggg.
We ate at these place 3+ times while we were there in June of this year. We ate at the rotissery place across the street from Notre Dame and we were not impressed; they were nice and thier cat roaming the rest. is nice but food and wine was just ok

vin et maree: this is a chain in Paris. It's quite good. My wife and I did the turbot special. They have a fixed menu and a menu on the chalkboard. The turbot was on the chalkboard. All 4 of us had the Baba au rhum du Zanzibar for dessert. Amazing. We were at the one in Montparnasse. The oysters were big and fresh. Reminds me why I've never been able to warm up to oysters in North America. These were outstanding.
Le Dôme: All 4 of us had Bouillabaise for dinner. It's near to Paradise I think. We had 4 different desserts (I'm not obsessed about desserts. No, really, I'm not): - the largest mille feuille I've ever seen and it was just about perfect. - roasted figs with a cassis sauce were amazing - the chocoate mousse may have been too intense (I'm just saying) - nougat glacé avec coulis de fruits rouges (this was mine and I was reluctant to share)
lunch at Millesimmes 62 a fixed price menu for 19euros was an excellent mesclun salad with fruit and a fish on a mashed potato écraseé (we have a group dinner there wednesday night with a few more choices, but this looks like excellent value both at lunch and dinner)
All of the above are in Montparnasse.
Tonight we went across town to Chez Astier. They have a website. Everything was great, but the highlight is when they drop the cheese plate on your table and say, take as much as you want. They have a website that you can find with google. The picture here is from last summer when I was there another time. The contents have changed a bit (seasonal) but it is no less impressive right now: http://www.knitbot.org/blog/20...eese-an-explanation/
I'll post more later in the week, maybe.

OK. Most of my recommendations are down in Montparnasse.
There is agreat cafe in St. Germain-des-Pres called Les Deux Magots. I've never eaten there but I've sat there after dinner on many occasions having a drink and watching people. If you're there on a Friday night late you might see the skaters roll by.
