Same here this evening (no cedar and storms as well) with risotto. (the last of last season's fall run)

What's your take on this year's catch? I've had it several times and frankly, I can't remember more robust and flavorful, (and my culinary skills haven't improved THAT much).

khmark7 - Vino Me's wife here. I do most of the "fish monger-ing" in the family. I shop at McCowan's in Glen Ellyn for just about all my fish . Copper River is in right now. They have top quality fish. Ask anyone from the Chicago Wine Mafia that has been around when I have served shrimp or any seafood.

It's pretty low tech. A pint of heavy whipping cream and half a stick of butter. Bring to a simmer and melt some cheese into the mixture. Add pesto, salt and pepper to taste. For pesto I usually add about a tablespoon.
Just saw this, thanks khmark7! I love a basic alfredo sauce but have never mixed with pesto.

Out with friends last night at a local Italian. We started with some langoustines split down the middle and grilled, really tasty. For my main I had a perfectly cooked veal chop flavored with just a little rosemary and butter. The wine list was pretty sparse so we went with the 2003 Pio Cesare Barolo which was drinking pretty easy despite its age. Ended the night with some profiteroles, chocolate sauce and fresh strawberries. Solid Wednesday night.

I love you guys! NO, I am not kidding! Last night Hebrew Nationals with homemade chili, sauerkraut, relish, and the fixings. Tonight, Meatball subs- Homemade Bison and Italian Sausage Meatballs with Buffalo Mozz and Vidalia Onions. Since we have just lost our jobs due to lack of business, we have tried to clean up our stock of wine. Last night with the dogs I drank a Marquis Phillips Integrity 01' Could have held on but it drank just fine! The other night I pulled out of the chest a Insignia 02 and it sucked!! Don't hold on to them for ever! I'll give you a short story. We have a crappy outdoor garage, had a case of crappy wine out there for two years through several freezes and high temps. A friend went over to the case and challenged us to drink a bottle. I opened it up and there was nothing wrong with that bottle. All I could tell was that it was a french white. The label was washed off!! Some wines stave the test of time!! IT'S NOT HOW MUCH YOU EARN- IT'S HOW WELL YOU DRINK!!!!!
