My wife and I will be traveling to Memphis, TN in mid-April. Does anyone have any fine dining suggestions? Looking for quieter places with good wine list. Wife is salt-restricted so famous Memphis ribs probably out of question. Haven't found much help on the web.

The "old Memphis" tradition is Folk's Folly on South Mendenhall. It's a steakhouse. If you like blue cheese on your filet, ask for the Schwartzkopf. It's not on the menu and is an insider thing. Among many other awards, they have been the recipient of Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence since 1999. Cozy piano bar for cocktails before dinner. See folksfolly.com.

For a more diverse menu I'd recommend Erling Jensen on South Yates. Think first course of foie gras and sauterne. Their wine list is not quite as extensive as FF. You can check them (and the wine list) out at ejensen.com

But you've got to sneak out and grab some ribs!

There are some good choices around Memphis, all of which will allow BYOB if you'd prefer. I agree with Barefoot's choices for typical Memphis experiences, but there are plenty of others that also have loyal followings and well-selected wine lists.

Ih what part of town will you be staying, and what sort of dining experience are you seeking?

cheers, y'all!
