As a Chicago resident, it is about time. The politicians should focus on lowering taxes and fixing the potholes rather than telling us what we can not eat. No need to be the laughing stock of the food universe anymore.

I didn't think it ever left myself. I just got back from 3 days in the city and had fois gras 3 times.

wiml,

If I'm not mistaken, the loophole was that it couldn't be an official "menu" item, therefore for sale. Fois Gras could be a "free" add on, or extra item on a dish.

FG isn't my thing, but glad most folks are happy with this, Roll Eyes.

There is this lady that lives 2 doors over in my Condo complex that is a member of Peta. She was constantly leaving some BS flyer on everyone’s door for the next Peta rally or some so called fact sheet of animal cruelty. One day I caught her leaving something on my door about foie gras. I like to argue so I told her I like foie gras and I think she should take her flyer back and turn in her Peta badge for the way she treats her dogs. She of course was taken back by this, but I went on to explain that her leaving her 2 big ass dogs on her tiny Condo balcony for days at a time was worse cruelty than force feeding some geese that were bread to be eaten in the first place. Needless to say I don’t get any more Peta flyers on my door. Smile

If she would have tried to give me a flyer on foie, I would have seared some off, walked upstairs, knocked on her door, and ate it in front of her.

Twice.

As Joe said, no shortage of foie while in Chicago. Love it. Tasty stuff! I think I ate 5 peoples' foie on the Saturday night since they didn't want it.

So I can cruise into Trotter's on Friday night and indulge my foie desires? Wink

He was the poster boy of the Chicago banning. If he's a huge hypocrite, he'll put it on his menu.

Yeah. Saying you love Foie Gras to a PETA lady is right up there with saying "I like wearing Mink Socks" or "I only cook with Whale Oil"

Not sure I concur with small birds in shoebox cages getting an industrial feeding tube jammed into their stomach every hour have it better than her 2 fat dogs laying out on the balcony but I'm sure it pissed her off plenty, which I guess was the point Big Grin

I am an animal love but NOT a PETA fan. They are a bunch of damn hypocrites. They are documented as euthanizing and dumping adoptable animals. As of 2007 they were being investigated by the DEA for their use of euthanasia drugs.

Technically, dinner on Saturday night was in Evanston, not Chicago. But I've had FG on several occasions in Chicago during the "ban". I can only remember hearing of 1 ticket being issued for a violation.

I agree, this sucks, bigtime. I've been a pedestrian PETA supporter in the past, but this kind of crap is inexcusable. And, it wasn't just a one-time thing by a couple of PETA, there was a pattern of this.

Well since you put it that way Frown

But you are right; my end goal was to piss her off so she would leave me alone. It does amaze me how bad she treats her dogs though. Her car will be gone days at a time and her dogs are just crammed in this tiny balcony (I have to pass by her balcony on my way to the mailbox) lying in their own sh!t. I never see her walk them, it just makes no sense.

She’s like an abuse counselor that goes home and beats her kids.
