Gang,
My wife and I will be traveling to Boston towards the end of this month and would love some wine-friendly restaurant suggestions that won't break the bank. And, while you're at it, perhaps some hotel or B&B suggestions in the Boston area too would be great. Thanks, Enjoy, Tom |

We love Olives -- the original by Todd English. We've eaten at some of the "new" branches and none compare. No reservations policy though, so expect a bit of a wait, esp. if you go on a weekend night.
Unfortunately, I do not recall the wine list, but the one in Las Vegas was decent. I can't imagine that Boston's would be much different. |

Coincidentally, my wife and I dined at Blue Ginger last night, owned by Ming Tsai. It's located in Wellesley, a few miles outside of Boston. It's truly exceptional!
I will post a more detailed note on Blue Ginger when I have a bit more time. |

just find your way to the North End - you cannot go wrong at almost any restaurant there

The reply to just go to the Northend and pick out any place is ridiculous. There are a lot of great restaurants and a lot of dogs in the Northend of Boston. If you want a place with great food and a wine list to match you should try Prezza. It isn't inexpensive, but it is very good with a wine list that is unmatched in the Northend. You can see the menu and wine list at Prezza.com. My wife and I just recently ate at the Top of the Hub on the 52nd floor of the Prudential Center, and while I am generally wary of these types of restaurants, the food, service and wine selection were all first rate and the view can't be beat. Good Luck.

I just went to Prezza.com and I now know where I'm eating the next time I'm in Boston. Damn! that menu looks good!

My wife and I went to the Bay Tower about three years ago. I don't remember too many specifics except that the food was great and the view was absolutely breathtaking at night. Highly recommend it for a romantic evening.

Boston is a terrific food city, one of the best in the country, per capita. Here's a few, all with excellent wine selections and all without crossing the Charles into Cambridge: Radius, Anago, Azure, Hamersley's Bistro, Blu, Bomboa, Mistral, Clio, Mantra, The Federalist, No. 9 Park, Excelsior, Icarus, Troquet, Jer.ne, , Prezza, Spire, Bricco, Sel de la Terre, and the grand-daddies of them all, L'Espalier and Locke-Ober (in its new incarnation under Lydia Shire).
As for hotels, I suggest one of the small "boutique" hotels, such as Nine Zero, Fifteen Beacon, Charles Street Inn, the Eliot or the Lenox. Have a great trip. If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute or two. |
