When I know I am not going to have time to cook dinner I will toss a roast, onions, carrots, potatos, and beef stock into the crock pot and when I come back home after a long day dinner is ready.

Pot roast is just about it (yes, it's an under-utilized appliance in the BRR Household), but it's great to reheat soup, chili, etc. while I'm out running errands.

Cheers!

The occasional roast. Highest and best use is for soups!

Velveeta cheese nachos.
But my crock pot is 25 years old. If someone has a compelling reason to buy one, let me know because you still have to brown the meat before using the crock pot, ie still lots of prep time involved.

I don't use mine except for when my mom comes to visit and she likes to make soups with it. Smile

I never do (brown the meat that it). I made a chuck roast the other day with a little white wine and the exterior turned out just fine. I leave some of it out of the water. I don't use that much anyway, the meat gives off plenty of juice.

I mostly use it (crock pot) so I have meat (Chicken or beef) that is ready and easy to digest in the morning for breakfast.

Nothing really compelling, unless you love corned beef.

Just wondering if anyone makes anything in their's that they just love.

My wife and I have had one for years, and my mother decades before that. I have yet to taste anything satisfactory from one.

I've found that the best thing you can use a crock pot for is something to hold the mail in before you sort thru it. Also makes a great paper weight or something to toss when having your own highland competition in the back yard.

I drag it out of the garage once or twice a year to make corned beef.

My wife will do a roasted chicken every once in a while that's pretty good. It's also convenient to put it on low leave it all day and have dinner without the fuss when we get home. I also do my pork and sour kraut for new years every year in the crock pot.

Don't really think it's a white trash appliance at all. But there are some white trash recipes I suppose.

I gave ours away. I do a chicken in a pot in a slow oven that's excellent and don't see the need for one.

By the way, GA, though we don't own a pressure cooker, I do think it's the best way to make corned beef.

Just one more sip.

I must say that the crockpot is not my first choice for cooking but I do use it for three dishes. Osso Buco turns out great on a very low setting. I also cook bottom round roast and then shred to make beef enchiladas -- very tasty. And, of course chili.

I use it to cook red beans after I've microwaved them for about an hour or so, then finish them in the crock pot. Also for cooking and keeping party minature meatballs warm for a party.
