FYI, luling city market in houston is not the same as the real City Market in luling. it is a knock off of the original. In luling there is nothing like stepping into the "smoke room" to order your meat from men wearing hard hats. You its SERIOUS. |

Personally I don't think the BBQ in this area is that good. It's passable. Almost all of the BBQ I like starts 2-3 hours south of here. Joe ----- Wine is like potato chips around me...if it's open, it's gone. |

I figured that since I was in Houston and not Luling City I would love to try the original some day….. “What is the soup du jour?"...It’s the soup of the day..."Mmmm, that sounds good, I’ll have that” - Lloyd Christmas |

2-3 hours?! Well I'm not sure I'd make the drive from Irving but perhaps another direct flight from Illinois into a different TX. city may be in order. I'm usually in visiting my son at college and we both like good BBQ. |

The best BBQ in Nashville is made in my backyard. One of my favorite places was in the middle of nowhere Georgia - Mary's flying pig. The joint was a converted school bus. Awesome BBQ.

TX is overrated...ya need to find a brotha that can BBQ in the SE. (AL, FL, GA, SC, NC)
Granted, I do liked my smoked meat with a wet sauce...so I'm not a dry rub guy!! Go to TX for Beans and Rice (unless its black beans and then its Miami) Oh and on the spare rib/baby back argument....I do baby backs myself even though the spares can have better flavor...but damn they got too god damn many obstacles. I end up throwing away half the meat! |

Best BBQ in Oregon is in my backyard or at our tailgater at Autzen Stadium.
I smoked 4 large briskets for about 15 hours at around 240 with hickory pellets on a FE100 cooker. Briskets were trimmed, covered with cym (cheap yellow mustard) and then a rub of Smoking Guns and Paradise rubs. For a sauce I enjoy Big Bob Gibson's Red Sauce. Best brisket this side of El Paso. |

Yes! Good call, Rothko. The Salt Lick sauce is the best. Smoki O's in downtown StL for rib tips and snout Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse, NY for food and atmosphere BarbersQ in Napa because, wow, it's really good. |

I agree that Rendevous was a revelation to me year ago, I think it has lost the sparkle it once had last I was there. Salt Lick is absolutely the best BBQ with the absolutely WORST Sauce I have ever had. There is something weird and sweet in the sauce-I can't remember is their secret ingredient pickle juice or something? |

Are any of these places mentioned BYOB or BYOW?

The Salt Lick is only BYOB, as I recall. We used to bring coolers of drinks to enjoy with the BBQ.

Well, it's definitely unique. I have a friend that does the competitive BBQ circuit (Team Smokeadelic) that swears by the Salt Lick sauce as his favorite bottled sauce. I found it here at BBQs Galore, we smoked a Boston Butt with it as the base for the baste, delicious. I then stopped by on a business trip to Austin. That place is incredible, whether or not you like the sauce, I guess. Too bad about Rendezvous. Haven't had it in some time, but it used to be killer. Anybody else try BarbersQ? Had it for my first time last night, very apropos for this thread. Amazing Q. And for those NYC'ers, the Dinosaur just opened their second location, near 125th and Riverside, by the Cotton Club in Harlem. Almost as good as the original. |

KC Area: Haywards - Overland Park, KS area Arthur Bryants - Kansas City - still the best bbq I've had in my life. Haywards is pedestrian. Arthur Bryants seems to still be a favorite with tourists. Folks from KC area swear by Oklahoma Joes, and I prefer 4 or 5 others to Bryants. |

My in laws from Topeka swear by Haywards, college friends from KC took me to Bryants. To each their own I suppose. Never heard of Oklahoma Joes, but will try to look it up in December.

For visitors to the Seattle area, I think the two best BBQ places to be found are coincidentally both in Woodinville, the epicenter of western WA wine country.
Disclaimer: Now, I'm NOT saying they could hold their own against any of the other places mentioned here, just that they are the best (I have found) in this area. Others may disagree. They are: Texas Smokehouse BBQ and The Armadillo BBQ (This went out of the retail business a few years ago, but has been recently resurrected.) *********** You never see crazy people walking the streets, screaming about atheism, do you? |

You want to see some real fireworks? Put a guy from North Carolina, a guy from Texas, a guy from Memphis and a guy from Kansas City in a room and ask them who makes the best BBQ.
