TJ:
Friday night we were at the Carlysle Club. Fantastic. I had Duck in a pomegranate pepper sauce that was outstanding. Pumpkin soup to start.
Last night were were at Crepe du Jour, and I had a trout with tomatos, mozzarella, garlic, over spinach.
Tonight, I had veal and vegetables from the local Kosher Chinese carryout.

Made a wonderful pumpkin squash soup with ginger. Not a lot of ginger but enough to off set the natural sweetnes of the pumpkin. It was well received especially in chilly Chicago.

Also, made a very rich beef stew with peas, shallots, carrots, potatoes, mushrooms and a delicious sherry/demi-based thickened sauce. I went full force and kicked in a small piece of Aztec chocolate to round it all out. My g/f loved it and I loved the Greek calzone that she brought over (spinach and onions layered in pita). Sometimes the most basic comfort food can chase the winter blues away!

Last night was a steak au poivre, with baked potato and veggies, after a caesar salad. 2001 Penfolds Cab/Shiraz Bin 389.
Then to a wine tasting which was interesting.
(I shall post tasting notes shortly)

Tonight we are going to an Afghani restaurant called "The Helmand" in Baltimore. It is owned by the brother of Mr. Karzai, current head guy in Afghanistan.

how thoughtful of you, kumazam, to plan meals around your neighbor's schedule Big Grin
we'll have lamb rack tonight with '98 Collioure Mas Cornet. and as for last night, after the kid went to bed, we had sushi, Henriot brut NV and Henriot 1995 champagne and watched 'I love Lucy" reruns- i must say, Big Grin romance was certainly in the air!!!

well, the stew wasn't planned because of him, but the wines are Wink his better half and the little terrors are gone until tuesday because the holiday and we both aren't going to work tomorrow.

optional cigars & hottub around 1-2 a.m. Razz

FYI - wines are:

00' Clos du Val
00' Estancia
00' Carmenet

also, try Midori Mushi for sushi sometime, i don't know where they are in relation to you in the Bay Area though. a friend of mine named Gerard Dumuk opened it about a year ago, he was a sushi chef in N. Lake Tahoe for a few years - he'll treat you right.

Grunhauser: The Helmand is really a popular restaurant. Opened at 5PM on Sunday, and every table (about 40) was instantly occupied. When we left to go to the theatre, there was a line out the door.
I actually look alot like Karzai, the head of Afghanistan. Same shaped nose and head. We each have the same kind of beard. We have the same hair style. (Huge part in the middle--the Phil Silvers look).

Grunhauser: I doubt life will be that boring. Where did you eat in PV?
Friends of mine are going for a week on Friday.
Next year for sure.

los pibes and some brasilian place near the gay quarter. we were in nuevo this time and only went to town three times, but...if you ever get a chance to visit Bucerias, don't hesitate, it's lovely village with very few gringos and many beachside restaurants and superb churros!

btw, to stay in line, we are eating supremes of pintade with grey minnesotan wild rice and cranberries with 1998 Jadot Corton-Pougets, and it is so, so good Big Grin
