Yea or nay?

I cannot think of an herb that provides bigger arguments. I cannot imagine a ceviche or salsa without it. I have friends who will actually get physically ill when they taste it. What's up with that? Confused

I've also found it a tough flavor to combine with wines, and have always thought "beer" when cilantro is involved as I'm not a big fan of the wines with "grassy" nuances that tend to compliment this spice.

I love cilantro!!

Thoughts?

PH

Mark me down for "nay"

Even in very small portions, all I get from it is an aftertaste of dishwashing liquid. Eek

I like it. My father-in-law will heave if he eats it and my wife doesn’t care for it either but at least she doesn’t get sick. Even though I like, I don’t use it in my cooking.

Yay! Big Grin

I absolutely love cilantro. Sometimes it's that hard-to-identify missing flavor in so many dishes. A touch of it goes a long way, but can you imagine fish tacos or pico de gallo without it? No way!

Cheers!

Good points, PH. I'm a BIG fan... I love it in salsa, guacomole, etc. I don't use it in much else, but I couldn't imagine not having it in those types of dishes.

We do a lot of salsa in the summer when the tomatoes are ripe. We top fish, chicken and even hanger/flank steaks with it. I find the normal wines served with those dishes work OK... not great, but they do the trick.

Go HOKIES!!!

Cool Love it!! Cilantro with lime is wonderful on salmon. I do have a few friends, however, that tell me they think it tastes like aluminum foil. Confused

I can only tolerate it in moderation. I'm sure it rounds out the right dishes and they'd be a lesser dish without it. But the taste of it alone or in excess on a dish is downright unpleasant.

Just tell anyone that doesn't like it that it's corriander.

Cilantro rocks. Anyone that doesn't like it has the palate of a baleen whale.

Ditto! I often grill salmon with a lime/cilantro butter. Love the stuff!
I can't think of an herb I use or enjoy more, except maybe rosemary.
