Wow. No posts today. Glad Zoi went. I got tired of her always looking like she was going to cry. Glad the judges didn't flinch. Her butchy girlfriend has to go next.

Richard's Salmon was probably the bigger screwup with the scales and all but he is just too good a cook and they know it. I wouldn't cut him slack next time though.

A bit OT but why are the new shows on at 10:00 when all they do is show the previous repeats all night leading up to it? 10:00 is too late for one of their most popular shows. Just put the 1 week repeat at 8 and the new show at 9:00. Confused Suspense I guess but there is a bigger audience at 9:00 than 10:00 for everything.

After Spike's tirade, he can go too....the gal with immunity did say she'd do soup if they wanted and he backed down. Don't whine after the fact.

I haven't been overly impressed with this season's group...

And if I see another dish with tapioca caviar I will throw something at the TV...getting to be like Marcel's foams...enough already.

Hunter, I completely agree with you about Richard. I hope he doesn't do something stupid like this again.

As for Jen leaving next, I'm not so sure. She's just one of a bunch of also-rans and I wonder if Nikki might be the next weakest link to go?

I agree with that. Jen is just annoying and whiney. More of a hopeful thing for me.

Nikki is pretty weak - especially with the non-italian fare. She's been lucky with that. (Pizza, Lasagna, and choosing an Italian movie for that challenge).

Zoi had to go as Hunter said. But, WTF was that little tirade that Dale put on at the end. He actually grabbed himself. Trying to be hip and looking like a total fool. I'm glad they caught it on tape. It could be a watershed moment for him to grow up.

Not a great group, particularly as compared to last year. Maybe they are holding back. Right.

It seems they are trying to be overly dramatic and combative. They need to work on the cooking skills.

I think the theme seemed pretty weak as someone mentioned. Also, movies. Animals. What's next, body parts?

Speaking of body parts, Padma.... Red Face

Last night's show was pretty good. Richard came through extremely well. I thought the Banana Scallops was creative, attractive and got him a place in their future recipe collection book.

I just cried and cried when Jennifer got the boot. Not.

The Second City bit was pretty funny and did force all participants to think very creatively. Some did that better than others.

Polish Sausage does not equal Chorizo. That was just dumb. Attempting to be creative doesn't imply you can change the primary ingredient.

I agree. I liked last night's show. Dale and Richard teaming up showed they're smarter than the rest as they are both very good and knew one wouldn't suck up the other too bad.

Thank God. What an annoying Butch she was. I couldn't handle the "I'm winning this for Zoi" crap all season Roll Eyes See ya.

Take away the Salmon Scales incident and Richard has been far and away the best chef of them all. If he loses this, it will be from him messing up. No one is in his league IMO and I think they all know it. Dale was smart to grab him up for that last team challenge.

The finale will feature Stephanie and either Dale or Richard. They want a woman to win, I think.

I prefer Dale and Richard's styles.

Despite not liking Jen, I really felt the greasy yet arrogant Lisa should have gone. She refused to use one of the required ingredients because she thought she was above it. Please.

I'm with you Een. I think they wanted the Jen to go. I think cooking a dish that was not remotely related to the theme would normally lose. Lisa does like a certain bleeped word used mostly by men. She won't last long.

Not a Lisa fan either. The "F" bleep is beyond tiresome and distracting at this point. Roll Eyes Maybe if she was hot....

Anything white trashier than unfeminine husky women in chef suits saying "f%ck" and "I wanted to sh#t in my pants"? One of them (Antonia) said she would "Vomit inside my mouth...." WTF?
Some of these women this year are friggin nasty man. It's like gender role refinement reversal. The guys are actually classy compared to these "women"

But we got Padma who looks better every week - if that is possible! Smile

I appreciate them wanting a woman to win, but this is the worst year to push that IMO. The Men are way better (on whole) than the women this season. Antonia and Nikki are very weak too. Stephanie has (or should have) the only shot out of the women and she ain't even THAT good either.

I think a lot of women in kitchens try to compensate or fit in with the guys by swearing and acting like that. In one kitchen I worked in, the men really tried to walk all over me because I wasn't swearing constantly or making stupid sex jokes or laughing when they made demeaning comments. The women who did were accepted much more readily.

Great. Then they need to find a decent woman chef. Cat Cora doesn't need to partake in Top Chef....she's already an Iron Chef. Wink

These women aren't in the league as some from last year.

The men rule this year.

f'ing right! Razz I agree. It is ridiculous. Yes, maybe they curse and bitch in the kitchen, but they don't need to do it on this show for goodness sake.

If Padma cursed, and she should with some of the crap that has been served up this year, I'd give her a pass.

Agree completely. Where DID they get these women anyway?

But we got Padma who looks better every week - if that is possible! Smile

I won't say it. Resist. Resist.

Inquiring minds want to know.....

How in fact do they choose who partakes in this contest?

I don't know as to top chef, but my cousin is one of the casting guys fro hells kitchen. They take resumes and videos from potential contestants and then pick a set number to interview in person. The crowd is then narrowed down until they are happy. They are probably already filming (or about to start) for the next season of Top Chef.

I know in Top Chef they are starting to cast close acquaintances of past seasons. Stephanie worked as Dale's (runner-up last season) sous at a restaurant and they are still quite friendly. A couple other contestants, I believe, have connections from past seasons. This, I believe, is where they are going wrong.

Interesting...It may not be that easy to find qualified people for this. They probably want chefs who are local to where they are working (NYC, Chicago, Miami), they want them young and already successful, hopefully attractive (plenty of ugly chefs) although they seemed to have not cared about THAT part this year Razz - and the people are already working chefs in the trade and who would be willing or able to leave their work to do this.

My other curiosity now that I'm thinking of it is how long does one season take in real time do you think? I gotta figure they need to do this all in a month or less or most of these people couldn't keep their real jobs or maybe it's really spread out where they just come in on Monday and Tuesday for 3 months kinda thing. It's hard to tell on a show like this.

On that last note - I thought it was just me and maybe it was but Richard looked like he put on 15 pounds from the earlier episodes which would suggest a break in time or maybe it was just his outfit Razz I did say that to myself though this last show. He seemed to have fattened up a bit.

It is full time - not in intervals - Carlos is a local chef here who was on 2 seasons ago I think - the one in LA not Miami) - I think to try out he submitted a video - He has owned with his partner his own small succesful restaurant here for 10-12 years I think - He had to train someone to run the kitchen while he was gone and he was gone for about 6 weeks or 2 months - I do not recall excactly - For a while we wondered if he had a medical issue or a falling out with his partner (both business and personal) as they kept his participation a secret but eventually under badgering from MLV - we learned where he was.

I can not believe that Nikki is still alive in this competition. I think that she is incredible weak. How many times has she said "I'll make the pasta" or "I'm really good at making pasta" and then the pasta turns out to be bad? Her repertoire seems to be fairly limited and I've got to believe that her days on the show are numbered.
