Hunter, I agree. I was just shocked that no one stopped to think about steam and sogginess.

Zoe's pasta salad was also pretty ghastly and I disliked her whining about it "not being her dish".

Yeah. It's not like people haven't learned that steam and soggy lesson from other dishes. The Bilinis from last week....

It just seemed like Erik really couldn't cook. The Soufle, the bad tacos. Didn't seem like a detail guy. So maybe they just let him make anything that he knew how to make.

I know! I was imploring them to remember the Blini incident.

I don't think he had particularly strong skills either. Sadly, it is pretty easy to get promoted to a chef's role. You just need to work hard, show up and have some ambition. If he's serving solely as an executive chef he may also be a few years removed from actually cooking.

cdr, did you ever see the movie Dogfight with Lili Taylor and River Phoenix? Your comment reminds me of the dinner scene when she gets tired of him swearing and just lets loose with her own imitation.

It was definitely Erik's time to exit stage left. Part of being a "top chef" is presentation...every single one of his presentations resembled a toilet bowl the morning after a tequilla-laden burrito party.

Seriously. if you can't figure out that fried food shouldn't be made several hours before serving, you really just need to go. Even I think about stuff like that when it is just 4 or 6 people for dinner. (not that I deep fry anything)

cdr, I would argue that almost all cooking shows are more about pop culture and image than they are food. The Food Network is really abhorrent to me because it's completely about show, not about cooking. Those hosts/chefs are manufactured personalities, geared to please a certain demographic. They don't often create their recipes. They certainly don't make the food. It's all scripted.

Would you be okay with a heterosexual couple competing? I'm not sure how their being lesbians is affecting the show or its level of class or whatever we want to call it. They're not having sex on camera.

I think this season falls flat because of the challenges and the skill levels of the competitors.

Een, I think what cdr means is that we couldn't care less if they are gay lovers or hetero lovers and all.
They need to show more cooking and less social BS.

If the show is trying to be less about the food and more towards pop culture and entertainment, then how about having some cute girls on the show that can actually cook!!! That I would watch.

Hey! It's not any better for us women. I miss Tre and Harold, although my Harold attraction was more because of the way he conducted himself in the kitchen and the type of person he seemed to be.

Another weak link goes. Can't argue with it. I can't believe the 2 girls picked "Top Secret" as their movie theme. I was cracking up. I thought I was one of only a hundred people who appreciated that movie. Smile

Richard, Stephanie and Dale just seem a cut above the rest.

I loved the Willy Wonka theme. They had me at Fizzy Lifting Drink.

It was definitely time for Manuel to go.

Well, this is not one of the more "attractive" groups they have had, but they are CHEFS for goodness sake, not models. That's a different show.

Razz
