I have been disappointed recently with my usual sushi places, looking for a recommendation in Palm Beach County for top quality sushi, and a place that serves more than bland tuna, salmon, escolar, etc.
Thanks

If you are in the north end I highly recommend Yu Mi sushi in the Promenad Plaza or Ginza off of Village and Palm Beach Lakes. My friends all like Sushi Joe on PGA Blvd but I refuse to go becuase of their add, Sexy Sushi for Sexy People. What in the world is that? Ridiculous!
Yu Mi is very cheap too. Dont go on Wednesday though. Thats Ladies nighs and the rolls are half off but they only have about 10 tables in the place and it is an hour wait.

Sushi Jo sucks
What makes Ebisu recommended and why does Sushi Jo suck ? Keeping in mind my main concern is the fish, items such as bluefin, o-toro, aji, raw scallop, japanese snapper, etc.

have you been there lately ? Just curious...I have found some of the reastauants in that "Delray city place-like area" are not as good in the off season. I used to visit Kyoto regularly (knew the manager and head sushi "chef". Then the New York owners cleaned house a while back for the bartender giving away a drink on New Years eve (they used to treat thir regulars for being regulars, knowing it was their lone source of support in the offseason).

Yama's old location in Delray closed in the spring. Someone posted that they just reopened in a new, smaller space in Pineapple Grove. I was last at the old one about two years ago and thought it was good, but nothing special.

Sorry to hear it closed. I understand what you mean by "nothing special," but I'd put almost all sushi restaurants in that category. It's all pretty good, but a real sushi standout that's far better than the good places is a true rarity. We've been to Nobu in NYC and while the prices were certainly exceptional, the food was nothing special.
Just one more sip.

Sushi Jo (the original location) on Belvedere, in West Palm, is pretty good; I go there for lunch about once every other week. I don't know anything about the other Sushi Jo places.

Went to Ebisu on Saturday at 7:45, three problems: (1) only one table with patrons; (2) smelled like old fish; and (3) sat at sushi bar, fish looked older than it smelled (discolored, dried out and/or "separating")...needless to say we left, and will never return.
Drove a mile or two east on PGA to Sushi Jo. Tables were filled and sushi bar was half to three quarters filled. Sat at the sushi bar, in front of what turned out to be the head chef. Fish was immaculate and service was outstanding. Yes, they may be slightly higher than other "run of the mill" sushi dives, bet when talking about sushi its more than the cost that matters. The variety was superb: o-toro (the best I have seen and tasted since Takeyama was still run by Kenny in its hey day), Japanese snapper, Kampachi, colossal raw scallops, wild salmon, along withthe usual suspects. The Sake list was extensive. The pieces of sushi that were cut were way bigger than any place I have been since Takeyama (so maybe the higher prices aren;t that high). I would definitely recommend Sushi Jo on PGA. Also, I asked about Aji. They didn;t have it but said to call a few days in advance and they would bring it in.
If you decide to go, I would recommend to sit at the sushi bar in from of "Jessie" and order directly from him. I don;t think you will be disappointed.

Did you say anything to them? Sounds like the food could have been dangerous to eat.
