I don't know if it was a hesitancy to try it or simply not gravitating toward sushi cuisine that has kept it from me until now. But this last week in NY was definitely an eye opener for me, and a treat for the taste buds.

We enjoyed some sushi at a "hole in the wall" sushi joint which seems to be numerous throughout NYC. But the "wow" for me was our gluttonous feast at the Japonaise; I even enjoyed some sparkling sake (a first) which I thought paired nicely.

Still "green" to sushi I'm curious to know what others recommend for places to try and also those places to avoid.

Glad to hear you have been enjoying Sushi. We are big fans and try to go 2-3 times a week when we are in SoCal. Can’t afford to go that often in London. Frown

In NYC, we like Sushi of Gari on the upper west side. You can get traditional stuff there, but I would recommend just letting the chef’s get creative.

Next time we're in NYC we're going to Sushi Samba. It's a fusion of Japanese, Brazilian and Peruvian cuisine (Brazil has the largest Japanese population outside of Japan). www.sushisamba.com

Our time seemed cut a little short, and it was on the list of things we weren't able to get to.

there was this one story, about a blow job and some fresh fish at sushi samba.

But I wouldn't say the sushi was as fresh.

I'd skip Nobu. Everything was very good, but I've had the same quality for a third the price at many other places.

Just one more sip.

In St. Paul try Sakura. I've been there a few times and have been very very pleased!!!

Best sushi I have ever had though is at Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar in Kapalua, Maui. Once you start it is hard to stop ordering more. Smile

Second for Sansei in Kapalua!! Best I've ever had. For a second, head to Seattle and hit Umi Sushi House on 2nd Ave. in Belltown.
