There is a wine retailer/restaurant in my neighborhood that sells wine in the restaurant at retail prices. One condition they have is that they do not change glasses. In other words, if I order a bottle of red wine, drink it, and then order a bottle of a different red wine, they require that I use the same glass. The owner says not changing glasses is one of the ways he keeps costs down so that he can sell wine for onsite consumption in his restaurant at retail prices. I guess I understand that--but this guy seems to be making A LOT of money, so I find the reasoning ridiculous. Does anyone know of any CREDIBLE articles I can show this guy that would put him in his place? Or am I the one being ridiculous?

If a restaurant sells wine bottles at retail prices, I'd be pretty grateful and one glass would be good enough for me. Most places charge 2-3 times retail.

I'd leave him alone if I were you or bring an extra glass from home if you want.

Yes.

If it's important to you, why don't you offer to pay a fee for new glasses? I think an extra dollar or so per glass should do it.

Or alternatively, order a second bottle of wine to be served well before the first one is finished. Unless you think the restaurant is going to mix the two wines together in the glass, they'll pretty well have to bring more glasses.

This can't be an insurmountable problem.
