Anyone bought a Fagor or Viking Induction cooktop to cook outside. I really mean fry. I hate the odors of fried foods in the kitchen.

Lorrie,
We have the indoor induction cooktop, but I've seen the Viking portable, and as I remember, it is electric and I'm guessing it is a 110 volt and not 220. Induction cooking, as you probably already know, is a very, very fast cooking method. Also, once the pan is off the cook top, it is rather cool to the touch. You'll need special cookware for the induction cooktop to work (cookware where a magnet will adhere), such as: Circulon's Infinite line with a steel base, and you can find it at most any local Department Stores, or at Amazon.com----Also, Demeyere is another good brand, made in Belgium, rather expensive, but you can find it on the web... Overall, induction is great for frying, once you learn how fast it cooks, otherwise you might be eating some Chicken Sushi! |

I love using induction cook tops. The only problem that I have run across is that they are electric and you need to be able to plug them in. Makes it difficult if you don't plan ahead or can't stand running extension cords everywhere. I stick to portable propane burners for this reason. In reference to latour 67 the Viking portable is 110V.

I think the Viking is pricey, but I love the look of it. Now, at a sporting Goods store there was a burner with a stainledd cabinet that was 119.00 withot the tank. That may be a more cost effective way of frying or cooking a stove top dish outside. Thanks so much for your replys.

Lorrie,
I just read my comments and wanted to claify something I said.
Of course I meant the Cook Top was cool to the touch; the pan will still be very hot! |

Lorrie,
Yes, $499.95 to cook outside is pricey, regardless of one's assets. I also feel the same about a $1000.00 bottle of wine; the cost is often more than the value! |

I used Viking's Induction burners in Culinary school. They worked so well. The pans get hot in a hurry.

I ended up splurging for a product that willl do what I want it to do, inside and out. I got the Viking the other day, need to open the box. Life is to short, so I decided to engage mysele in one of my passions, cooking.

I used it this past wekend. Just experimented with the cast iron skillet withhatingup some ham for breakfast. It worked well.My son, Evan who is Autistic, sat on a chair on the deck, and must have thought I was off of the Food Network. Having a credit card is awful
But, I love to cook, and my family and friends love to eat. |

Hurricane Gustave has brought rain, so I could not play with my new Viking Induction cooktop outside. Fall would be here if the depressions wold not be in the Gulf!
