Hi gman. Funny you mention that dish. I am in Northern Rhone now where they make wines that pair great with lamb. I recommend Chateauneuf du Pape or Cornas.

CdP- De Villeneuve is terrific OR La Nerthe

Cornas - Chapoutier Les Arenes is terrific.

Hermitage reds are my favorite but can be a bit overpowering for the succulence of the lamb.

I like these wines with Porterhouse. In France, you get laughed at when describing Porterhouse. They eat Cotelettes.

Stir-fried staek with red peppers and scallions. I'm good at this, unlike burgers.

Just one more sip.

Awesome dinner last night at Mastro’s Steakhouse with Gkapoor. We started with crab stuffed mushrooms and tuna tartar with 2005 Joseph Drouhin Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières. Next was a bone-in filet with garlic mash, onion rings and sugar snap peas. The 2001 Conn Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve paired perfectly with the steak. The awesome 1994 Château Angélus came towards the end of the steak and was enjoyed slowly over butter cake, fresh berries and an hour long conversation about our favorite Seinfeld episodes. A perfect ending to my stay in CA. Back to London tomorrow.
