Tons of sushi and sake with the in-laws last night. Salmon, tuna, yellowtail, eel, etc. If I had to pick one type of food to eat the rest of my life, it would be Japanese hands down….

Started out July with a bang.

A couple of mexi-melts (Eek) as I had a huge stack of projects to turn around in one night before the last day of summer school.

I guarantee that there will be something good on the grill tonight. Wink

Went to Marche Moderne in Costa Mesa last night with Mrs. Glennk and Gkapoor and his wife. Marche Moderne is a welcome addition to the OC dining scene with simple but well prepared French cuisine and only $10 corkage. We started with NV Deutz off the list and Gkapoor brought a 94 Seavey Cabernet Sauvignon and I brought the 2004 Robert Keenan Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District. We are not big CA Cab drinkers, but both wines showed extremely well. The 94 Seavey was the biggest revelation for me, still youthful and would have fit nicely in a blind Bordeaux flight. For dinner, I started with an heirloom tomato and buratta cheese salad and a main of braised short ribs. Good night with great friends.

One type of food for the rest of your life? Japanese? I love it, but it would not be my "one and only choice" -- it's not wine friendly, IMHO, especially for reds.

Lobster, rotissere chicken and bacon cheddar burgers. The perfect 4th of July feast. Today the leftovers turn into lobster salad.

Lots of good eats the last couple of days. Korean bbq at my in-laws Friday night with plenty of Korean beer and soju. Yesterday we had lunch at my favorite sushi restaurant in SoCal, Hamamori. A lightly seared slice of sea scallop over rice and a black truffle sauce with one slice of black truffle on top is probably one of the best single bits of food I have ever had. After lunch we went to a 4th party at a friend’s house where we munched on carne asada and nachos while sipping on some natural light from a keg (just like college). Then last night for dinner we threw some chicken on the grill and served it with couscous, sierra nevada and stone ipa.
