I'll probably take advantage of the lack of crowds at the theater and go see a movie.

So the menu will be popcorn, Twizzlers, and maybe even some Raisinettes.

This year, for WS journalistic purposes, a chowder battle: New England vs. Manhattan, seems obvious to me.

Thanks! "CHOWDA" it is! And, it's delicious. I'd had what I thought was NE Chowda my whole life until I visited New England a few years back. Boy was I wrong.

Chowder doesn't even sound appealing to me for a SuperBowl dish.
I'm thinking maple sauced wings for New England
and ordering a NY Style Pizza for NY Giants and maybe a pot of "COWBOY SHUTOUT" chili with a beer to cry into.

I'd be afraid to make wings for the Superbowl party. One or two could make their way to the carpet.

Just one more sip.

Smile Yes, there will be some water. What I was thinking is that slippery wings with bones would be likely to be dropped, while the other appetizers should be less likely to find the floor in a crowded room.

Just one more sip.

I'm gonna have some bread with meats and cheeses laid out to make sandwhiches and a big crockpot of chili so people can serve themselves. I only have a few guys from work and my renter and my son so they can serve themselves. I will have beer for them but if the Giants start to pull away I might have to pop something good from the cellar to celebrate. Razz

The last couple of years I've served my friends a bunch of 20-dollar bills and a few fifties on the side.

Years ago I liked betting a whole lot more when it was just a straight bet on the winning team, and no one-- including me-- knew anything about the spread.

My friends' wife solved that problem years back by going to Home Depot and buying some cheap astroturf off the roll. She covered the floor with it, claiming it was "Superbowl decoration". Even colored some white lines on it. She later admitted she was frightened of what we'd do to her cream carpet. Big Grin

Nope. Cannot say I have, but I'll be on the lookout. Another good one in that style is Bear Republic Racer 5 (a little lighter and maybe even a bit more hoppy than the Lagunitas).

For those who missed the wings on the homepage today, we just published our second-annual Super Bowl wings and wine-matching story. And for anyone looking for wing recipes, both of Laurie's were excellent - much better than the takeout versions we ordered for this story last year...

My version of wings that are always a hit. I never measure and everything is by eye, so the following is an approximation.

Marinade:
2 green onions diced
2 cloves of garlic diced
slivered ginger (about the same amount as green onions used)
2 tbsp (light) soy sauce
1/2 tbsp of sugar
1/2 tbsp of salt
Couple grinds of white pepper
3-4 drops of sesame oil (don't put more)

Mix everything in a large zip lock bag with about a pound of wings (mid-section).
Stick in fridge for 3-4 hours.

Take out 45 minutes before cooking and remove wings from marinade ridding of most solids stuck on the wings (you don't want it to burn). In a preheated medium-high grill (400 F), grill for 5-6 minutes per side or until juices run clear. Serve.

Had the Bear Republic and certainly do enjoy it, actually just went to Sonoma and I regret not stoppin' by the brewery.

Imo, nothing beats classical Buffalo wings- deep-fried then tossed with a mixture of butter and hot sauce with a bit of garlic and horseradish.

Just one more sip.

amen.

I guess I would consider myself a 'classics' kind of man. I love cheesecake with no topping, philly cheese wit wiz, and deep fried wings with the classic sauce--- no frills. There are some things that are better left as is.

Nice little variation on the buffalo theme- I served this last year.

Grill up some chicken breats and then cut/shred. Mix with buffalo sauce (butter and crytal's hot sauce). Get hamburger buns (we use whole wheat) make a pile of the buffalo chicken mix, top with shredded carrots and cabbage and then add blue cheese dressing on top. One heck of a buffalo sandwich.

Somehow this brought to mind the classic SNL Chris Farley sketches of he and his fellow "da Bearz" fans sitting in a tavern, eating sausages, and counting how many heart attacks they've each had. Big Grin

A topping should only be used on a bad cheesecake, never on a good one!
