Have been invited over to a friend's house for a St. Paddy's day party next week. She is making a traditional Irish Stew. Anyone have any wine pairing thoughts here? I am thinking Riesling or Gewurt but would love any other recommendations.

Thanks in advance.

St. Patrick's Day? Wine? Uh-uh. It's a beer holiday, but if you'll be drinking wine, how about a CdP? It's great with stews.

Isn't hop about the most important ingredient in beer?

Maybe you meant "grape about". Smile

What can go better with Irish stew than Guiness?

I know, I know, I can always go with Guiness (and probably will) but was trying to figure out if there was something that might pair really well with it...oh well Smile

I cook my Irish stew with red wine, instead of water or beer. So whatever red wine I choose to cook with, will be the wine I pair it with. Otherwise....it's beer.

A Cahors might go well.
