I would not be purchasing my fish at Whole Foods. The quality of the fish at the three of the stores in my area (Palm Beach/Broward Counties, Florida)is average to poor. When you can see it drying out, and being sprayed, it is a sure sign that says "step away from the seafood department". Their flesh of their salmon is always separating, a very bad sign meaning poor delivery/storage or just plain old !

I'm not a Whole Foods fan either. I've seen out-of-date Epoisses and La Tur several times at the one near me.

Just one more sip.

Our Whole Foods is good from what I've seen to date. FWIW.

I can only help you out in Palm Beach County for salmon.

I did see the copper river sockeye in whole foods...you couldn't pay me to buy/eat it. Otherwise, I have not seen any copper river salmon in the area. It is too damn expensive, markets wont buy it because they will not be able to sell it before it goes bad.

You disappoint me, spo.

Wow spo, you seriously need a palate transplant.
It's all these young domestic and Aussies wines you've been drinking. It's bad for ya, no joke.

Big Grin, the good news is that he is such a young pup, so still time for development.

Publix Greenwise has Copper River salmon for $15.99/lb. but right now there are only two stores, one in Palm Beach Gardens and one in Boca (just opened last week).

Probably loss leader pricing to attract people to their new store, but the place has been mobbed its first few days. Can't vouch for the quality or freshness, just saw an ad in the paper. Update - my wife just called from there (didn't know she was going) and mentioned the salmon to her and she said it looked very dark colored and moist so we are having it for dinner tonight. Smile

K,

I'd posted this elsewhere, but it bears repeating. Are you going to be enjoying Copper River jerky this weekend.

CR shipment today=CR on the plate tonight.

Every minute out of the water means less return on investment, unless you have some new dry aging technique nobody's ever heard of. <empty suit razz>.

Well, I'd like to pitch a tent, snatch them from the river with my bare hands and dress them on the spot, but we work with the limitations we have.

Granted, it would also be nice to have just one 'meal size' portion shipped fresh to me twice a week. But this is just not going to happen.

I had these delivered to me in Detroit. I'll drive them up to Montreal and enjoy them (at least part of them) over the weekend. You're point is taken, indy. But I suppose I feel they're certainly fresher than if I bought them at the corner market and can live with myself for delaying consumption to share them with friends and family. No way do I want to savor these alone. I can live with the limitations imposed. Smile

K,

Wink I'm just hating, don't mind me. I'm the guy who puts his paddle down when the bidding gets to about 25 bucks for CRS. Even a couple of days in, your salmon will be WAY better than the Trader Joe's frozen I had earlier this week. (But, indulge me, pull over at a rest stop, build a little newspaper campfire next to the free wi-fi kiosk and cook up a morsel). Or, have some sashimi. I can live vicariously. Cool

Enjoy the weekend!

May the wine you pair it with be as special as the Salmon itself! Cool
