I'm not a great fan of Muscats; I find them to be pretty simple and one-dimensional. However as a pairing for fruit desserts I've yet to find anything better at a decent price.

I drank my last one on Saturday night. So before I go and buy a few Boony Doon Muscat Vin de Glacieres, does anyone have any better suggestions under $25 for a 375?

With fruit based desserts, I like the fruitier sweet wines, like Riesling and Scheurebe, maybe Gewurtztraminer. Can't go worng with an Auslese.

Just one more sip.

I did a pairing of cheescake with a fruit topping with a Cali riesling. The folks seem to like the pairing.

Cheesecake is a perfect pairing for Sauternes.

Just one more sip.

Agreed. And I have plenty of Sauternes. (Not that you can ever have enough).

I'm looking for pairing ideas for those desserts that don't go well with Sauternes.

The one I served on Saturday had Strawberries and Melon in a fruit jelly (Orange and Lime) with a Strawberry and Lime coulis. Fruity and tart; the Muscat was just right.

Depending on the fruit profile...

Chenin Blanc: Washington State; Coteaux du Layon, France

Grenache: Banyuls, France

Braquetto: Piedmont, Italy

If you decide to buy more muscat, look for the Domaine Durban Muscat Beaume de Venise. It's usually around 12-13 bucks a half bottle.
