Going to Barbados in April. I've been there many times, but not for years. Any high end restaurant and wine suggestions?

Wow! I was just sitting here thinking about when I was there about three years ago. We stayed at an all-inclusive resort (Crystal Cove) and thoroughly enjoyed it. So we ate there (or at one of the sister reorts) most of the time which was nice to have zero hassle about where to go. The only time we ate out was for pizza and some of that delicious Banks beer! As far as wine, I've found that it is not worth the trouble to seek out great wine on any non-US Eastern Caribbean islands because the duty is just too high and the selection of California wines are limited to what you can find at your local grocery store. Again, just go with the Mt. Gay rum and Banks beer and your vacation is guaranteed. Sorry this doesn't directly answer your question but do enjoy yourselves!

There are some very good restaurants on the west coast of Barbados in the Hole Town/Speightstown areas. Carambola and the Cliffs Restaurant come to mind. Sandy Lane, absolutely the most deluxe hotel in Barbados, has a very good restaurant, but the name escapes me. There is a good seafood restaurent in Speightstown just across from a hotel called Little Good Harbor, but can't recall the name as well. Also, if you can get to the Crane Hotel on the Southeast coast, they're known for their Sunday brunch. Many of the local Bajans go there after church and the food is great local fare.

I represent the Barbados Tourism Authority in the DC area. If you want me to send you some info, drop me an email at rbromberg@cox.net.
