We ate at Pair of 8s on the Upper West Side on Saturday. Pair of 8's

The restaurant is a fairly small place on Amsterdam near 88th street. The atmosphere is relaxed and fairly quiet. The food was nicely prepared and the menu was put together with some original thought.

Most notable for this audience, wine is a focus. They use Riedel stemware, even using the "o" for water. The actual wine list is considerably different than the one on the web. They had a couple of older vintages and a interesting selection that I would term "not the usual suspects." When asked about some of the older vintages, the sommelier mentioned that they were interesting finds that she wanted to feature.

She recommended a 1993 Chinon (don't remember the producer) to go with our choices of Cobia (fish), steak, and vennison. We all thought it was a good choice.
