The worst thing about summer ending, no more delicious beefsteak tomatoes. And other fresh veggies as well.
But I miss good tomatoes the most!! |

Another month of summer? Now that would suck, then again so would living in the great plains IMO. My tomatoes are still green, but they are getting close. Early September is fresh tomatoe time around here, until we get a killing frost that is. "A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have." Not if it's in that frozen tundra known as Vermont.

I have 30 days of good tomatoes left, but the season is coming to an end in a hurry. Just like the Oklahoma State Cowboys football season. |

Vegetables in the winter generally do suck.

Agreed. During the summer and early fall months, there is a nice little farmer's market in the town where our butcher is located. Every Saturday morning, we head over there and get freshly picked NJ fruits and veggies. There are usually 3-4 different farmers, plus two bakers from 'Amish country' and a fisherman. After the last week of the market, it's a big downer to have to go back to eating super-market produce. Go HOKIES!!! |

I'm doing fine.
When you do a lot of work from home and have a 5 and 6 year old - the first day of school is a great day! Oh and wife is going back to work after 7 years of stay-at-home, so reclaiming my house this month was something I was looking forward to |

Look at the bright side, you get to eat warm and hearty meals in the Fall and Winter! Also, lots of red wine pairings

You can always grow them inside. We are still getting plenty of tomatoes, but we did two seperate plots one early and one late.

Nope. The best root vegetables are always good in the winter. Turnips, parsnips etc. Winter squash is better than summer squash too. Good riddance to summer. Too f'ing hot this year. -------------------- "One may dislike carrots, spinach, beetroot, or the skin on hot milk. But not wine. I agree with Assman, I prefer winter vegetables to most summer vegetables(except for tomatoes), and I also enjoy the "comfort" food to be cooked using them.
For me, while summer is always fun, I tend to welcome the changing of seasons no matter what season it is. When fall/winter comes, I'm generally sick of the heat, but will miss the long days. When summer/spring comes I welcome the heat and curse the cold and rain. I guess I am a man who just needs change every now and then |

I love the changing of the seasons. But when it's twenty below with a foot of snow I can't wait for spring.

If there is only a foot of snow, then I'm praying for more snow soon.

A good cook can do wonders with some great turnips. Root vegetables are not in the same league as other vegetables. I not sure if they are even food. They were only consumed during the winter to keep from staving to death, while you waited for spring and the return of real vegetables. Now that we have supermarkets, and it's not the stone age, there is no reason to ever eat a turnip or rutabaga. PS, carrots are okay though.

You mean not everyone is just waiting for the day it is not 100+ when they get home for work? I figure I'm at least 30 days away from "outside" weather yet.
