We had read excellent reviews of this restaurant, so we made a reservation in advance. The place is quite popular with the locals and was full on a Thursday night at 9 PM. There was no air conditioning and the room was a bit too warm. First courses:

Ballotine of Trout- This was a mousse served with smoked salmon bits and capers. It was a nice combination, but nothing special.

Escabeche of Mackerel- A little bland

Main courses:

Haddock risotto- Well-done, fine

Brill with Savoy Cabbage and Chorizo- This was an excellent dish. The flavors combined well to compliment each other, but the piece of brill was quite small.

Wine- 2006 Scala Dei Les Brugueres- Crisp minerality, excellent balance, 32 UKP

Total for dinner with tip- 91.25 UKP. I'd recommend the place as a decent value with excellent food if you know what to select, but this was not a wow dinner. Wine list priced moderately high.

Just one more sip.

This post caught my eye simply because I grew up in Winchester, Virginia and the mayor of Winchester, England always comes to Virginia once a year for the Annual Apple Blossom Festival. Smile

Thank You Board-O...I still check in from time to time. My absence is largely reflective of the ages of my kids...what wine pairs well with swim meets and little league baseball?! Big Grin

Something inexpensive which also pairs well with saving for college.

Just one more sip.
