Heading to San Diego first week of May. What would anyone suggest for a great bottle of wine and a great dinner? Not necessarily in that order!
Thanks

Based on reccommendations from this board, I had a great meal at Laurel, which is near the zoo. Food and wine list were both excellent.

Also had a good meal at Dakotas.

I did a feature on La Jolla last fall for the magazine. Many of the best restaurants in the metro area are there and it's just a short drive from downtown. Here's the link:

I will second the WS recommendation of A.R. Valentine at the Lodge at Torrey Pines. Its the best meal I've had in a long time.

Tompc,

A can't miss is Georges as the Cove in La Jolla. If the weather is nice, get a table on the roof deck outside. The view is wonderful. Outstaning food with and excellent wine list. Last time there we enjoyed a couple bottles of the 99 Shafer Relentless with our meal.

After dinner, consider wandering down for a nightcap at the Whale Bar at Hotel La Valencia.

Have a great time!

If you find yourself in North County, try Vincent's Sirinos.

Vincent's

Very fine food and $15 corkage. You can always stop by here, Holiday Wine Cellarand pick up a nice older bottle of wine. Temperature controlled and impeccable storage.

I have booked dinner at the following downtown San Diego places. Picked these locations primarily due to the proximity to the convention center and hotels nearby.
Greystone
Chive
Aqua Blu

Looking forward to the experience and will post tn.
Thanks for everyones help

You picked these restaurants "primarily due to the proximity to the convention center and hotels nearby?" Isn't a great experience worth a cab ride?

Just one more sip.

Can't help with those choices. Haven't been to any of them.

Ditto scbeerman - Last year, posters on this board directed my wife and I to Laurel. Great spot. We both had the Sea Bass and a bottle of Gary Farrell RRV Chardonnay. Fun Stuff.
