Gotta say this thread has suprised me few times. I am shocked by all the Spotos love. It is a great place to do happy hour but I havent ever been that impressed with their food. Good but I dont think its great.

I am also suprised Cafe Bould or Renato's wasnt mention early in the thread. Trevini was a great call. I had my Rehersal dinner there. Fantastic food and wine service.

Love the Captain Charlies reef grill recomendation. His new one, the Food Shack is also excellent for seafood. Terrible wine list but great food. The Blue Water Ocean grill which was opened by his old chef is great too. The chef got to keep alot of the recipes.

You cant go wrong with River House.

Cabana in West palm is great cuban!!!

If you are a pizza guy you have to go to Anthony's on PGA Blvd. It is cooked in a coal fired oven. Dont get take out. The crust gets to soggy but eating there is great. Their Meatball Ricota is my favorite.

JBurman,

I agree with you on the Food Shack. It's just too far for me to drive to, when I can stop at Captain Charlie's instead. As I recall, Food Shack allowed us to BYOB from the Crown Liquor in the same complex. Those crusted fish dishes they serve at the Food Shack are really special.

Renato's is a great call. Beautiful place; I love to eat outside. Also Chez Jean Pierre is a favorite of mine; unfortunately there is no BYOB there.

I'll have to try Anthony's. I am dying to find a decent pizza place in the West Palm area. To date my favorite is Pizza Girls, but I know there must be better out there.

PS: Any chance you are related to a well-known attorney in town whose last name is Burman?

Pizza girls is a great place to grab slice. They have the best pie downtown by far. Anthony's is in the old Pier 1 store on PGA Blvd.

The attorney is my father. How do you know him?

Our paths have crossed many times; in fact I interviewed with him a long time ago. He's a great guy.

Last I heard, you were in far-away lands.

Welcome home.

Went to Anthony's last night for pizza.

Pretty good stuff; slightly overcooked for my wife's tastes, but I thought the pepperoni pizza was tasty.

Not any more. Down town closed due to tax lien enforced a day or so ago.

Too bad. We went to Bistro Provence 3 times this trip, including the offline. Our other favorites are City Oyster and a small place with great fresh fish, Grumpy Grouper, in Lantana.

Just one more sip.

Do you need reservations at Bistro? Going to theater tomorrow night with a party of 5.

I'd make one to play safe. The place was half filled on Christmas Day, but busy and full the other two times we went.

Just one more sip.

I just read that the downtown West Palm Beach location of Spotos shut down, leaving only the PBG location open.

Also, Rosa Mexicano closed down in the Downtown in PBG. I was a big fan of this restaurant.

was on Clematis street last evening. See a few shuttered places [other than Spotos], and some that recently changed hands.

For Board-O interest. Some one gave a great review to Cafe Chardonanny. Must have been with bad taste buds

We've read good reviews of Maison Carlos but prefer to skip to bustle of Clematis, at least in season.

We used to be regulars at Cafe Chardonnay, but the place has gone downhill and the owner/hostess is a pain in the neck to deal with.

Just one more sip.

Board-0, Maison Carlos is very good. I used to eat lunch there once a week when I worked downtown. I get skipping clematis in season though.

Cafe chardonnay is still a good place just not at all what it once was, and with its prices my wife and I dont go anymore. There are way to many other options around here with better food and prices.

You South Floridians let me down. If you had supported my favorite place, The Wine Warehouse, it'd still be there. Imagine my disappointment when I drove up and found it had closed. I had to manage with Total Wine and ABC.

Just one more sip.

My wife and I stayed at The Breakers and had dinner at L'Escalier last night. A little dissapointing wine service, I must say. After the advanced sommelier (Master sommelier was off) poured the first glass of the bottle we ordered (1994 CHÂTEAU PICHON-LONGUEVILLE-BARON) she basically dissapeared. I had to pour my own wine and had to ask the waiter to call her to make some recs on ports and after dinner drinks. Half of the tables at the restaurant were empty. Food was just OK (we both had the tasting menu). It was my first time at this place and based on this one experience, Palm D'Or at the Biltmore is much better. I honestly don't mind pouring my own wine (I've done it many times) but in a place with so many wine accolades and for that amount of money I expected a little more attentive service; not to mention that we found a roach in our room. Eek

They do have a nice wine list but pretty overprized. The building is beautiful.

Thanks Wino, I really didnt want to get the girl in trouble though. I was curious how others would have handled the situation so I could do better next time.

I was eating at Anthony's Pizza on PGA last night and saw that they have Tignanello on their wine list for $100. I though that was pretty amazing price for a restaurant.

Also, Flavor Palm Beach is starting to ramp up their advertising. I just got the emial to their kickoff party on Aug 28th. For those of you that dont know what it is, think Miami Spice only up here. About 15 good restaurants do 3 course menus, $30 for dinner and $20 for lunch, just to bring in some traffic during the slow period. Here is the link for those who are interested.
