I am going to be in West Palm beach next week - are there any must hit resturants? I should be there Monday night and possible Sunday night as well. Looking for great food and a good wine list that matches the cuisine. If anyone is in the area and available (particularly on Sunday night), I should be able to sneak out for a drink or dinner - just not sure of my schedule yet. Thanks in advance.

If you want great and are willing to spend, Cafe l'Europe is my unqualified first choice.

Just one more sip.

I would prefer seafood over steaks. I can find good steaks in TN, but fresh seafood (if you exclude catfish Wink) is hard to find. Italian is always a winner with me as well. BTW - thanks for the recommendations so far and keep them coming!

G

PS - it looks like I will be free for dinner Sunday if anyone wants to get together and open a bottle and grab a bite to eat.

Will see. My other half is enroute back from north, and do not know her plans

Seafood:
Palm beach Gardens - Spotos. {On PGA Blvd, just west of I-95] Has a good list too. Fair prices, good stems http://www.spotosoysterbar.com/ They are in WPB also. WPB os a smaller place, but still great.
PS: It's our favorite place.

There's two Spoto's, both very good, and corkage is $10 at either.

Just one more sip.

Any lunch recommendations? I'm going to be flying in/out of West Palm Beach in a few weeks and will only have time to grab lunch. I would love to hit something cuban if you have a recommendation.

Forget Cuban. Get yourself some great wings at:

Teddy's Wing Shack
1632 South Military Trail
West Palm Beach
561-642-7067

It's a short cab ride from the airport, just north of Forest Hill Boulevard on the east side of Military Trail.

Just one more sip.

I ate dinner at the palm beach yacht club - excellent food and the wine service was wonderful. I am looking forward to coming back and trying a few of the other gems mentioned above.

Best private club in the city. we eat there often, and normally when there is a full moon, so we can see the moon rising over the Intercoastal.

I ate there recently and the guy I was with was a member back when Thomas Keller (of The French Laundry) was a cook.

too bad your friend had to catch him when he was still learning. Wink

The food was fantastic. I was disappointed that they did not have the stone crab that I had heard so much about. I had the lump crab app and lobster tails for dinner. If invited back I'd go in a heartbeat.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to pipe in.

I would have recommended Captain Charlie's in Juno Beach for seafood. I love that place, and their wine list (while not extensive) is very very well priced, and their stemware is good. Plus, they BYOB.

Spoto's is a good recommendation for seafood as well.

The Yacht Club is nice. I used to go there for lunch so often that I got tired of going there. I haven't had dinner there in ages, in part because I belong to a club on the other side of the Intracoastal and can watch the sun go down instead of the moon rising!

As far as Cuban for lunch: Don Ramon's is a classic; there are several locations in WPB. Havana on Forest Hill Blvd. and US1 is very good. In downtown WPB, Cabana is very good; albeit more of an "upscale" cuban restaurant than the other two mentioned.

Gee, thirsty, normally I'd tell you my favorites, but I'll be down there in a week and you'll have picked all the cherries.

Check out Total Wine on Military Trail just south of Glades. It's not far from where you're staying. They have a huge selection from around the world and prices are relatively modest.

Just one more sip.

Be sure to pick up some 07 St Cosme CdR for $10 there or the 07 Melville Viognier for $20. Avoid the Bordeaux there which is a complete ripoff. But if you want to get some mailing list type CA cabs, syrah, and pinot, go about four doors down to Guy La Ferrera, an Italian mens' shop with a nice wine selection in the back corner.

Yeah, seriously. Guy knows his wines and is very passionate. He sells some things from lists he is on and also gets restaurant allocations that are turned down (happening more these days). Also, I work in the office tower behind that center and go by Total Wine often and they replaced the Melville I purchased within a couple of days, so they seem to have plenty.

I haven't eaten there, but I have friends who rave about Truluck's in Mizner Park. There is also Legal Seafoods in the mall and the Chops Lobster Bar downtown (only had steaks there). These are all chains, as Boca doesn't have any good seafood indies.
