JHD - how are the crops? The Everett, WA soil is yeilding fine fruits! The kids get there's while they play - sneaking a few - and there are still plenty for some incredible post-barbecue shortcake and other strawberry deserts. We've never had strawberries like these before!

What are favorite pairings for Strawberry shortcake or the like? JHD, anyone?

Thanks -

There's nothing like fresh home-grown strawberries; none of those giant, pithy, tasteless, mass-grown, store-sold berries. My favorite has always been right into the blender for a fresh strawberry shake.

This is my first year growing strawberries, but my Mom grew some when I was a kid.

I recall her covering them up so the birds wouldn't eat them. Is this a real issue?

I just bought and planted some plants so I'm not quite there yet, but some had some berries growing on them, so I might have an issue in a week or two.

Thanks for the advice. Sorry I can't advise about Strawberry shortcake recipes though.
