OK...Soon I'll be on my way to New Orleans and I'm hoping I can get some help here.

I'm looking for a restaurant that is not one of the tourist stops but where I can get some good Creole cooking. Even a modern interpretatin of the genre would be appreciated. We'll be ther for 5 nights. Want to stay away from Emiril's places and from the likes of Commanders, Brennans, etc.

Any suggestions?

this thread is very helpful when visiting NOLA. There are several good threads on where to eat on this forum as well.

If you are going there very soon, go to Ugelsich's before it closes. Seriously good food at an out of the way dive kind of place.

Some good places weve found off the beaten path as we prefer to dine local low key style, especially when in New Orleans.

Luizza's - just a great neighborhood restaurant with Creole as well as some Italian dishes I believe.

Camellia Grill - Best Breakfast Ive ever had, if you like waffles or omelets you have to go here! Take a cab there and the trolley back, you'll need the time to digest

Dooky Chase - Soul Food/Creole - Gumbo Delish!

Mothers - This is the place to go for po' boys.

Also if your going to be in town on a Monday head to Donna's on Rampart. They have a sort of open mic New Orleans style which rotates in some of the most amazing musicians. True New orleans boogie. At the break the serve Red Beans and rice along with chicken (Free!). If you like Jazz this is the best thing I could ever imagine doing on a Monday night!

I love that City...have fun!
