I am trying to find a good wine cellar application tio start tracking what I have, what I like, etc. I have seen a few, but am not completely happy with any of them.

Here's what I would like it to do:
- List qty and pricing that I have in house
- Allow me to rate, or use WS rating
- Allow me to keep track of what I tasted and liked/disliked so when I go shopping, I know what to buy
- Has a large database of wines

I tried "The Personal Wine Curator, and it seems to be the best I've tried so far. I grabbed three bottles I have and tried entering them. 2 of them were never found... 2005 Chateau Malbat Bordeaux and 2001 Chateau Branaire Saint-Julien. And I can't seem to get the Drink By working.

What is everyone else using?

The best I've seen:

cellartracker.com

Has a simple layout, easy to use, and great wine database. Can also print bar codes, wine lists, etc.

I used to use a software called "Cellar" and thought it was pretty decent. After several recommendations from fellow collectors I finally converted over to Cellartracker. No comparison to ANY other. Hands down.

I know folks (Stefania Wine and wine + art to name a couple) who have pretty substantial cellars and just kinda keep it all in their noggins. They are both very bright individuals, but I still have to believe that they have an occasional, "Oh, I forgot I had that buried over here," or "Where the hell did I put that damn bottle of Kendall Jackson Merlot," moment. EekRazz The ability to input a location for a wine has been helpful for me in putting my hands on a bottle when I don't have a lot of time to look around.

I started using CT when my collection hit around 500 bottles and wish I'd started using it sooner.

I use it to keep my collection list current, to occasionally print a winelist for friends and guests to noodle over and to give me a quick overview of my collection to give me ideas on what to drink next. It's been helpful in reminding me of older wines that need to be drunk up.

Although I depend less on the tasting notes there unless I recognize the poster, they can be helpful in determing drinking windows.

When you don't seem to just know your collection very well (just by walking into your cellar) without the aid of technology of a website or any of the reasons below.

One click to generate wine list.
One click to generate a report of consumption patterns (by region/grape varietal/vintage/etc...).
One click to generate a report on purchase patterns (by region/grape varietal/vintage/etc...).
One click to view all previous transactions with a specific bottle (purchases/consumption/TN/etc...).
Readiness to drink report (but this generally requires prespecified parameters).

and many more. But if none of these features interest you and you have no problems with recalling the contents of your cellar, then you don't need CT.

I am using My Wine Assistant, a very good web based cellar software.

Another vote here for CellarTracker. Great program, and based online so I can access it anywhere. Plus, it's fun to look at what other people have in their cellars, who has a particular wine that you purchased, etc. I also love th fact that I can go back and look up that awesome bottle of XXXXX that I can't remember the name of!

Took a quick look. It is absolute garbage compared to CellerTracker. Roll Eyes

Example: Did a quick search using Banfi as the producer. The results came up with 3 options.

Castello Banfi - Chianti - Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG

Castello Banfi - Sangiovese - Brunello di Montalcino

Castello Banfi - Sangiovese - Poggio all'Oro - Riserva

Did the same search using CellarTracker. 53 results.

No contest.

Indeed, CellArTracker has a very extensive database and very often with a lot of wrong information and duplicated wines, but as a Cellar Management software I still think My Wine Assistant is a better solution.
Can you visualise your cellar or your racks with CT ? Wink

I'm sure there are people who are convinced that Kendall Jackson Merlot is superior to Petrus.

Visualize my cellar? Why do I need to visualize it? It's 50 feet from my kitchen. I can go look at it. And with CellarTracker I know where every one of my bottles is.

If I tried to input my cellar in this Wonderbread wine program of yours I'd be spending hours creating data entries. Pasadena.

Are you a friend of the creator of this thing? I cannot imagine someone even comparing this Edsel to CellarTracker without having a dog in the race.

I am not that lucky, most my wine, is in a wine storage, in boxes or racks, so this feature is very good for me.

I am sure of that. Pasadena ?

That is a silly question. Of course I am friend of the creator, as I am your friend now.

Either way, it was nice to exchange ideas about "wine programs" with you. Your arguments are really very strong (KJ vs Petrus) and I will not post in threads where you post because now I know: You are the man !!! Cool Cheers.

For about the last 20 years, I've kept all information about my wines in a standard computer database. It allows me to add whatever information I need in a format that's useful to me. It's easy to update, can be sorted in any way I want, can be modified to add new data fields or to create new forms and reports, and it's private.

I can't say enough good things about CellarTracker, and as a member who has donated, it gives me everything that I could possibly need.

Sure, there are a few duplicate wines in there, several even, but I would rather scroll through those and determine which one I need than have to manually add it.

I can access CellarTracker anytime from anywhere, so I could be on temporary duty in the United Arab Emirates, pick up a bottle at a store in Dubai, and input it back in my tent when I get back to base. It just couldn't get any better or easier in my opinion. Kudo's to Eric for developing it!

i guess i could go to the website to answer this q but how much does it cost and are there different levels of subscriptional use of CT? ..... for a guy that is well, well below five hundred bottles would my collection warrant the use of CT? ....

..........or if my wife goes over to one of her friend's house and raids 'my' cellar of 'my' bottles to bring one over....i will be looking for THAT particular bottle and it is not there, ......
