I am a menu designer, developing a customizable menu manager program for high-end hospitality outlets. I have the food outlet side of the program pretty much put together, but I'm lost when it comes to wine.
What I need to do is develop an exhaustive list of catagories that would be used on a wine list define or identify global wines - French, American, German, etc. Currently, this is the list of catagories I've put together:
BIN # Catagory (White/Red/Rose, etc) Country Region Subregion Vintage Varietal Name Price
Is there anything that I am missing that would be used as an identifier on a wine list?
Alright, I have to confess to you all that when I listed off the catagories - and this just goes to prove how ignorant I am when it comes to wine - I was singing the Billy Joel song in my head... "A bottle of white... A bottle of red... Perhaps a bottle of rose instead."
For my own wine database, I also find need for the categories:
>Producer >Dry/Sweet/Sparkling >Blend - for each grape % >Alcohol% >Importer - some carry a bit of clout >Tasting Notes, description or Shelf Talker info >General Notes - vinification techniques, organic/biodynamic?, quirks, residual sugar, label explanation, etc. >Drink or Hold designation >Bottle size - split/750/1.5 etc
