I am looking for a chart that gives general cellar age suggestions for a broad range of wines. I know each wine can be assessed for it's own "optimum drinking time", but I am speaking strickly in generalities. Has anyone seen such a chart online or otherwise?

WS has vintage charts that include Drink or Hold suggestions.

Vintage charts can be misleading. I'd go by individual producer and vintage. Some wineries can make a good wine from a lesser vintage and other wineries can make a not so good wine from a great vintage.

He said he was only speaking in "generalities", so I thought the chart would serve that purpose.

Are you asking for something like:

"Napa cab - cellar for six years."

or

"1999 Dunn Howell Mountain - cellar until 2015"

The first one is too random to be useful, the second too specific to find a chart covering everyone.

You could check Cellartracker or a similar site where people post their experiences and suggestions. Some people actually know what they're talking about too. Free information from random people.
