I heard recently that there is some kind of pest or disease which is causing problems specifically for growers of Cab. Franc in California. Any insights?

Certain Syrah planted in the last ten years is getting "Syrah Dieback" which looks like it may be "Black Goo", which some research points to being an early stage of Eutypa, which seems to hit Cabernet Sauvignon hard at age 15-20.

There's also Leaf Fan Roll, and Pierce's Disease, but nothing I've heard of particular to Cab Franc.

We also battle: deer, gophers, mocking birds, jays, racoons, wild turkey's, little boys, wandering tourists, wayward Cal Trans crews, NIMBY nuts, and a whole host of other pests, but those also are not limited to Cab Franc.

Hey Paul: how do you take care of the NIMBY pests? Is there a spray that works?

"Sometimes when I reflect back on all the wine I drink I feel shame. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the vineyards and all of their hopes and dreams . If I didn't drink this wine, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, 'It is better that I drink this wine and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver."

Right now the town of Woodside is completely distracted about tearing down Steve Job's house. Find a billionaire and let them go after him seems to work.

I'm reluctant to expose my ignorance, but you'll have to explain what NIMBY means.
