I work in a supermarket Deli in a medium sized town. We have a few party shops that carry wines, but no dedicated fine wine shops. As a result many people just make due with what we carry in the market.

The wines are located next to the meats and cheeses wich i prepare. As a result customers will often ask me what kind of wine they should get, or what kind of wine would go well with their favorite meat and cheese.

I like wine, but i dont know much about it technicaly. Iv read the articles on the main page about types of wine and grapes, and the terms associated with them. But i realy dont know enough to recomend anything to others.

I have two questions i hope you can help me with.

First: Iv alwase been told that as a general rule red wines fit better with heavy foods like red meat and cheeses where white wines usualy go better with lighter foods. Is this a good general rule?

Secondly, as a simple supermarket, we dont carry any "high end" wines, but could I get your opinion on the chief brands we do carry? Iv read som posts in this forum, and didnt see most of them mentioned.

Most of what we sell is made by:
* Tabor hill
* Covey Run
* yellow Tail
* Black Swan
* Fish Eye
* Turning Leaf

We do carry other things, but they are very cheap. Stuff like Mad Dog 20/20 and the like, and i do know better than that at least. Smile

Thank you for reading! Im hear to learn, and greatly appreiate any comments.
