I'm trying to come up with some interesting wine flight themes that go beyond the traditional reginonal or variety. For example, I heard that Riesling reflects the terroir better than other grapes and thought I could do a tasting of Rieslings from the major different soil types. I'd like to come up with some other ideas for other nights, would anyone like to offer up some suggestions along with specific wines? I'm open to anything, like from doing the Nickel and Nickel single vineyard Cabs to a simple run of different levels of oak in Chardonnays, or the difference between French oak and American oak etc, etc. Thank you!
You might consider a horizontal Ken Wright tasting. Their Pinot Noirs are grown in four or five different types of soil (something like clay, sandy, volcanic, gravel, and shale- I may not be exactly correct here, but you get the idea). The wines are bottled by single vineayrd and you should have some fun trying to see what charcateristics are imparted to the wines by the various soils.
Just one more sip.

You could also do a tasting from different wines from the same vineyard. For example, we did a Pinot tasting with various producers using the Savoy vineyard. You could do the same with Pisoni, Bien Nacido, etc.

A fun tasting i've done has been german rieslings from the same vintage, producer, and vineyard, but the different ripeness levels, kabinett, spatlese, auslese.
If you wish to be out front, then you must act as if you are behind
