After my trip to Paris, I have found myself wanting to drink more Bourdeaux and red Burgundy. I would love some recommendations on what is drinking well for both now (all price points) and perhaps your thoughts on what I should be buying now to lay away.

Bordeaux - 2003 Leoville Poyferre - lay this down for 15-25 years. - 98 pts RP // currently 96 pts - me. I got mine on futures I think these are about 80-100 bones right now.

get a bottle of 1989 haut brion or even a la mission haut brion. That should be drinking well, i heard its a mind blowing experience. about 1200 for the haut brion and about 700 or so for the mission.

also i recommend 2001 suduiraut sauternes, it got 98 WS and 98 RP. I picked up a 375ml bottle for $39.99 about 2 months ago.

You might want to try some 1999 Bordeaux. Not a stellar vintage, but there are some nice wines at reasonable prices that are drinking now. I have had the Duhart Milon, St. Pierre and d'Armailhac. My favorite is the d'Armailhac (rated 90 by WS). All three of these are available for between $25 and $35.

Red Burgundy - 1999 & 2002 for drinking now and laying away, across both Cotes. I like 2001 Cotes de Nuits (stay away from Volnay - hail) and they are relative bargains.

The 1999 villages are drinking well now and in my mind are 1999 is the best vintage of the 1990's for reds. When you look at 2005 future prices you see the 1999's and 2002's out on shelves at 60% of the price. I loaded up on 2002 Bouchards and almost across the board they have been awesome. Red Jadots should still be out there too, and some of the cheaper (under $50) is great.

2000 is drinking good now but you need to be careful. Bargains galore though - buying & drinking Groffier Chambolle 1er crus for $50 and the 2005 pre-release price is double that - the 2000's aren't as great, but you're basically getting a good 1er cru from Chambolle for the price of a village. 2003 is a freak vintage that I've mostly avoided except at the lower end, as poorly sited vineyards had the capability to perform beyond their pedigree due to the freakish heat - lots of Bourgognes and Haut-Cotes from good producers. 2004 I'm just starting to go through and being very selective, as herbal or green notes come up - have only bought Roumier and Chevillon. White 2004's are really good though.
